Better Foliage is a Bedrock addon by Fused_Bolt that addresses one of the most visible gaps between Java and Bedrock: flat, repetitive foliage. It replaces standard leaf and grass models with layered 3D geometry, adds up to nine grass and fern variants per biome, and brings falling leaf particles to every tree type. The addon ships as a single .mcaddon file containing a resource pack and an optional behavior pack, and targets Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.
What it adds
- 3D saplings and mushrooms with improved, detailed models
- Flowers with 4 to 6 unique model variants per species
- Grass and fern variants: up to 9 per biome for visual variety
- Falling leaf particles with physics and per-tree-type color varieties
- Multi-stage apple growth on oak trees (5 growth stages)
- 3D sugar cane models and improved kelp forest density
- Cattail and seagrass variants for wetland and ocean biomes
- New plants: shrubs and nether roots
- Cherry blossom leaf improvements (Cherry Leaves Update)
How to install Better Foliage on Bedrock
- 1.Download the Better Foliage .mcaddon file from the CurseForge project page.
- 2.Tap or double-click the file. Minecraft Bedrock will import both packs automatically.
- 3.Open or create a world and go to Resource Packs. Enable Better Foliage Texture Pack.
- 4.For falling leaves, apple growth, and new plants, also enable Better Foliage Behavior Pack under Add-Ons.
- 5.No experimental toggles are required for Bedrock 1.21. Launch the world and the changes take effect immediately.
Compatibility with Realms and servers
The resource pack component works as a client-side pack on Bedrock Realms and dedicated servers. Players can enable it locally without the server operator needing to do anything. The behavior pack, which handles falling leaves, apple growth, and new plants, must be enabled by the world owner or server operator as a world add-on. Because the 1.21 release does not require experimental APIs, using only the resource pack does not affect achievement eligibility.
Questions about this entry.
How do I install Better Foliage on Bedrock?
Download the .mcaddon file from the CurseForge page, tap or double-click it to let Minecraft import both packs, then enable Better Foliage Texture Pack under Resource Packs and Better Foliage Behavior Pack under Add-Ons in your world settings. No experimental features needed on Bedrock 1.21.
Does Better Foliage work on Realms?
The resource pack works on Realms as a client-side pack applied by each player individually. To use the behavior pack features (falling leaves, apple growth, new plants), the Realm owner must enable it as a world add-on in the Realm settings.
Does Better Foliage require experimental toggles on Minecraft 1.21?
No. The current release targeting Bedrock 1.21 does not require any experimental toggles. Earlier pre-1.18 versions required Holiday Creator Features, but that requirement was removed in later updates.
Which Bedrock version does Better Foliage support?
The latest release targets Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.120. Previous 1.21.x releases are also supported. Check the CurseForge project page for the full version history.
Can I use Better Foliage with other addons?
Yes. Better Foliage does not modify core loot tables or crafting recipes, so conflicts with most other addons are unlikely. If you notice visual glitches when running multiple addons, try placing Better Foliage last in your resource pack order.
