How seeds work.
A seed is the number that deterministically generates a Minecraft world. Same seed, same version, same edition: same world. That is why every seed page here pins the exact version and platform it was found on, with coordinates for the landmarks that make it worth playing.
Java and Bedrock generate terrain differently, so one seed produces two different worlds across editions. And because quarterly drops keep adding biomes and structures, a seed's landmarks can shift between versions. Treat the version note as part of the seed.

How do I use a seed?
Paste it into the seed field on the world creation screen, in advanced or world options. The seed only controls generation, so on an existing world it affects newly generated chunks, not terrain you have already explored.
Do Java seeds work on Bedrock?
The seed will be accepted, but the world it generates is different. Java and Bedrock use different generation, so seeds are catalogued here per edition. Use a seed found on the edition you play.
Do old seeds still work after an update?
The seed still generates a world, but new biomes and structures from each drop change the output. A seed found in 26.1 can generate different terrain in 26.2, especially in unexplored areas. Match the version listed on the seed's page for the exact result.
How do I find the seed of my current world?
On Java, run /seed (you need operator permission on servers). On Bedrock, the seed is shown in the world's settings screen.
