The Block Railway Engineering modpack (BRE) is aimed at players who build subways, light rail, railways, roads and whole cities in Java. It runs on Fabric, Quilt, NeoForge and Forge. Players and the host both need it installed, so everyone on a shared world runs the same pack.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric and Quilt: Minecraft 1.17.1 to 26.2.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.4.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.20.1.
What's included
The foundation is railway mods: MTR (Minecraft Transit Railway), Create and Immersive Railroading, plus their add-ons. These give automated operation, a working signalling system, platform screen doors, ticket gates, passenger information displays and overhead catenary.
On top sit building-material mods for vanilla block variants, modern lighting and road decoration, along with helpers such as WorldEdit. Optimization mods target loading, chunk loading, rendering, memory use and multiplayer networking. Particles and some screen effects are off by default, and the full-contents pack also disables mob spawning. All of it can be switched back on.
Full-contents, IR-Only and Fly variants
The pack ships in three variants: Full-contents, IR-Only and Fly. Full-contents is the broadest. Its base pack is plain vanilla with optimization mods, helpers and WorldEdit, and is designed to match the base pack of Blockitecture.
Content arrives through the DLC Manager mod. Each optional mod gets a description, a link to its CurseForge or Modrinth page, conflict and dependency notes, and performance and memory warnings. Three building-material presets (Lite, Standard, Architect) rise in hardware demand, and two presets cover the railway mod suites.
Installation
- 1.Use the Modrinth App, Prism Launcher or another launcher that reads .mrpack files.
- 2.Import the pack through that launcher, which downloads the listed mods and the right loader, as covered in how to install a modpack.
Questions about Block Railway Engineering.
3 questions
How do I install Block Railway Engineering?
Import the pack into the Modrinth App, Prism Launcher or another launcher that reads Modrinth packs. The launcher fetches the listed mods and the matching loader. The full-contents pack also includes the DLC Manager, which lets you enable or disable optional mod content.
Does Block Railway Engineering work in multiplayer?
Yes. It includes mods that tune multiplayer settings and network connections. It must be installed on both the player side and the host side.
Does Block Railway Engineering include JEI?
No. The pack deliberately skips mods unrelated to rail transit and city building, naming JEI and Farmer's Delight as examples. You can still add mods yourself, and the author offers compatibility support within reasonable limits.
