What Gnetum works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, NeoForge, Forge |

| Environment | Client |
Gnetum is a performance mod that distributes HUD updates over multiple frames. It runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge, and it is needed on the client only. The server is unsupported, so leave it out of any dedicated server setup.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API; some builds for 1.21.1 to 26.2 need no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.12.2 to 1.20.1. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.12.2 require MixinBooter.
How Gnetum cuts HUD cost
The HUD is expensive to draw and rarely changes, so Gnetum redraws it less often than the world. It divides a full HUD update into passes and renders only one pass per frame. Based on the rendering time of each element, it spreads their updates automatically, which lifts the average FPS and the minimum.
- A back framebuffer receives the current pass, and a front framebuffer holds the finished HUD texture.
- With 4 passes, a full HUD update takes 4 frames and saves draw calls on every one of them.
- When all passes finish, the two framebuffers swap. Every frame still draws the front framebuffer.
- An HUD FPS limiter caps how often the HUD refreshes.
The trade-off follows from the design. The HUD updates slower than the frame rate by intent, so fast-changing readouts lag slightly behind the world.
Configuration
Since 4.0.0, settings use the Sodium Config API and appear on the Video Screen. You can change the number of passes, the maximum HUD FPS, and whether caching is enabled for each element.
Compatibility
On 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 1.21.11, ImmediatelyFast is fully compatible and recommended. On 1.12.2, two conflicts matter.
- OptiFine: disable Fast Render, otherwise Gnetum does nothing.
- StellarCore: keep its HUD Caching feature disabled. It is off by default.
Installation
Pick the file for your loader and game release, then place it in the mods folder along with any dependency listed above. Launch with that loader's profile. The Java mod install guide covers the steps. Gnetum is inspired by Moulberry's HUDCaching mod.
Questions about Gnetum.
4 questions
What is Gnetum in Minecraft?
Gnetum is a client-side optimization mod by decce6. It renders the HUD in several passes, one per frame, instead of redrawing everything every frame. The result is a higher average and minimum FPS.
Does Gnetum work on multiplayer servers?
Install it on the client only. Server use is unsupported, so do not put it in a server's mods folder. It changes how your own screen draws the HUD, not how the world or other players behave.
Is Gnetum compatible with ImmediatelyFast?
Yes on 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 1.21.11. ImmediatelyFast is fully compatible with Gnetum there and is recommended alongside it.
Does Gnetum work with OptiFine on 1.12.2?
Only if OptiFine's Fast Render option is turned off. With Fast Render enabled, Gnetum does nothing. If you use StellarCore, keep its HUD Caching feature disabled too, which is the default.
