Lightman's Currency is an economy mod that adds an item-based money system to Minecraft Java for multiplayer play. It runs on NeoForge and Forge, and it must be installed on both sides, for the players and for the host. Its trading machines are break-protected, so a shop stays safe even when its owner is offline.
Loaders and versions
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 1.21.2. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Patchouli and Curios API.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.16.4 to 1.20.1. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Patchouli and Curios API.
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.20.1, builds stopped after July 2024. The newest build requires Fabric API, optionally Trinkets.
What it adds
Money takes the form of six coins: copper, iron, gold, emerald, diamond and netherite. Players carry coins in equippable wallets, which collect coins automatically at higher tiers.
- Trading machines that sell items, buy them, or barter one item for another.
- Trade rules that limit how customers use a single offer or a whole trader.
- Personal bank accounts, plus a team system for shared traders and shared funds.
- A Paygate trader that fires a redstone signal in exchange for payment, with printable tickets usable as coupons or as payment.
- Money enchantments, including Coin Magnet for wider coin pickup and Money Mending, which repairs gear for a fee.
Protection and admin tools
Only the owner can break a trader. The mod also includes an emergency ejection system for cases where a modded mining machine or a setblock command bypasses that. Admins can set up traders with infinite stock, which suits a shop where players sell common items for money. Wallet rules let you keep only the wallet on death, or drop a share of its coins instead.
Configuration and compatibility
Most of the economy is adjustable. Mob drops, loose change in chests, which items count as coins, their exchange rates and whether coins can be minted or melted are all configurable. Wandering traders gain extra coin trades, and two added villager types sell nearly anything. Those trades can be turned off, but the villager types themselves cannot. With Curios API installed, the mod's wallet slot moves into Curios. Trading machines should handle modded items, and the wiki covers how each part works.
Installation
Pick the file that matches your loader and Minecraft release, then drop it into the mods folder of every player and of the host. Our guides cover installing mods on Java and setting up Forge or NeoForge if you need the loader first.
Questions about Lightman's Currency.
4 questions
Does Lightman's Currency need to be installed on the server?
Yes. The mod is required on both sides, so players and the host must run it. Put the file that matches your loader and Minecraft release in the mods folder of every installation, then launch with that loader's profile. Forge and NeoForge are the loaders with current releases.
Can I use Lightman's Currency on Fabric?
Fabric releases exist, but they stopped receiving builds while Forge and NeoForge carried on. Their features also differ from those advertised for Forge. For an active economy setup, NeoForge or Forge is the safer choice.
Can other players steal from my trading machines?
Trading machines are protected so that only the owner can break them. If a modded mining machine or a setblock command gets around that, the mod includes an emergency ejection system for those cases, so shops can sit in public areas while you are offline.
Can I change the coins and their values?
Yes. You can configure which items count as coins and their exchange rates, and control whether coins can be minted or melted. Server owners can even add or remove coins to use those from another mod.
