Crumb Shaders is a semi-realistic shader pack for Java that runs on Iris and is aimed at low-end hardware. It keeps shadows and mood while dropping the costly effects, and its listing sits in the potato performance tier. It works on the player's side only and has no role on a multiplayer host.
Shader loaders and versions
- Iris: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.2.
What it keeps and what it cuts
MonkePixel built the pack for players who want a nice view and real shadows without a strong GPU. Ambient occlusion, reflections, volumetric lighting and raymarched shadows are removed. Atmosphere stays.
- Shadows
- Vignette
- Chromatic aberration
- Bloom
- Dynamic sky
- Atmospheric fog
- Animated water
The trade-off is plain. Without reflections or ambient occlusion, surfaces look flatter than in heavier packs. The newest release is still tagged alpha.
How to install Crumb Shaders with Iris
- 1.Install Iris on Fabric or NeoForge. The pack's releases list no other requirement.
- 2.Get the .zip from the Modrinth page and place it in the shaderpacks folder.
- 3.Open Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and select Crumb Shaders.
If the pack does not appear or the screen stays unchanged, the shader troubleshooting guide covers the usual causes.
Origins and licence
The pack is based on MakeUp Ultra Fast by javiergcim, licensed under LGPL v3. Crumb Shaders has its own source repository with a GNU GPL v3 licence file, and bugs go to its issue tracker.
Questions about Crumb Shaders.
3 questions
How do I install Crumb Shaders?
Install Iris, put the Crumb Shaders .zip into the shaderpacks folder, then open Video Settings and choose Shader Packs to select it. The pack is built for Java only, so Bedrock cannot run it.
Is Crumb Shaders good for low-end PCs?
That is its stated purpose. The creator describes it as a very lightweight pack for low-end hardware, and it removes ambient occlusion, reflections, volumetric lighting and raymarched shadows. Real frame rates still depend on your own machine.
Does Crumb Shaders work with OptiFine?
The releases list Iris as the only shader loader, covering 1.20 to 26.2. OptiFine is not listed, so Iris is the loader to use with this pack.
