Euphoria Patches is a shader addon for Complementary Reimagined and Complementary Unbound that adds dozens of optional visual effects not included in the base shader. Unlike a standalone shader pack, it installs as a mod through Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt and works alongside Iris or OptiFine to extend Complementary at runtime. Every effect is toggle-based, so you layer in exactly what you want through the in-game shader settings menu under the EP category.
What Euphoria Patches Adds
Each release ships a curated set of optional effects that build on Complementary without altering its core rendering pipeline. Highlights span dimension overhauls, lighting extensions, and camera-style post-processing.
- Multi-colored block lighting: colored light from torches, redstone, and other blocks tints surrounding surfaces instead of casting white light
- Aurora effects: northern lights across the night sky with adjustable color, intensity, and the Aurora Influence option that tints terrain to match
- Tilt shift: camera-style shallow depth of field for a miniature photography look
- Retro camera filters: scanlines, halftone patterns, long-exposure blur, and black-and-white options
- Soul Sand Valley overhaul: all fire-related blocks and entities in the biome turn blue to match the soul fire theme
- Customizable End: End Portal Room glow, crystal beams, and the End sky are all adjustable
- Surface noise: moss floor noise, nether sky noise, and lava noise add texture variation to biome surfaces
- Winter effects: enhanced snow and ice rendering in cold biomes
- Distant Horizons configuration: dedicated settings for visual compatibility with LoD rendering

Questions about this entry.
How do I install Euphoria Patches?
Install a mod loader (Fabric, Quilt, Forge, or NeoForge) and add Iris or OptiFine as your shader loader. Place Complementary Reimagined or Unbound in your shaderpacks folder, then drop the Euphoria Patches .jar into your mods folder. Launch Minecraft, select Complementary as your active shader, and the extra settings appear inside the Complementary shader menu under the EP category.
Does Euphoria Patches work with both Complementary Reimagined and Complementary Unbound?
Yes. Euphoria Patches extends either version with the same optional effects. Reimagined targets a more stylized look while Unbound is more configurable by default, so the visual outcome differs based on which you choose as the base shader.
Does Euphoria Patches work with Iris and OptiFine?
Yes, Euphoria Patches supports both. Iris is the primary shader loader for Fabric and Quilt and is actively maintained for modern Minecraft versions. OptiFine works on Forge and NeoForge. For Minecraft 1.17 and later, Iris is generally recommended since OptiFine updates have lagged behind major releases.
Which Minecraft versions does Euphoria Patches support?
Euphoria Patches supports Minecraft Java Edition from 1.16.5 through 1.21.11 as of mid-2026. The Modrinth project page also lists older versions back to 1.7.10, but active development and testing focus on the 1.20 and 1.21 release family.
Does Euphoria Patches affect performance?
Adding Euphoria Patches to an already GPU-intensive shader like Complementary will cost additional frame rate, particularly when features like multi-colored block lighting or retro post-processing are enabled. Most effects can be toggled off individually through the EP shader settings menu, so you can find a balance that fits your hardware.
