Complementary Reimagined Shaders is the vanilla-preserving style of the Complementary shader line by EminGT. The source frames Reimagined as a way to keep Minecraft's blocky identity while reworking lighting, atmosphere, water, shadows, and other visual effects through an Iris or OptiFine shader setup. It is a client-side Java Edition shader pack, not a gameplay mod or server plugin.

  • Visual style: vanilla-like, colored lighting, atmosphere, bloom, fantasy, foliage, PBR, reflections, and shadows.
  • Loader path: Iris or OptiFine, with the shader ZIP placed in the shaderpacks folder.
  • Source version range: Java Edition releases from 1.7.10 through 1.21.11 after filtering out nonstandard version labels.
  • Preset range: the source describes profiles from Potato to Ultra, so players can tune the pack rather than treating one preset as universal.
  • Server side: Modrinth marks the project as unsupported on servers because the shader runs on the player's client.

What Reimagined changes

The main reason to pick Reimagined over a more realistic shader style is restraint. Complementary's source page says the Reimagined style preserves Minecraft's unique visual elements and provides a reworked vanilla feel. That makes it a better fit for players who want richer lighting and atmosphere without turning every scene into a heavily realistic render.

The broader Complementary feature set includes custom effects for many blocks, colored lighting, bloom, reflections, shadows, foliage effects, PBR-oriented visuals, and profile options. Reimagined and Unbound are described as different default settings rather than locked feature sets, so players can still adjust shader options after installing the pack.

Install notes

Install Iris or OptiFine for the Minecraft version you plan to play, launch the game once, then open the Shaderpacks or Shaders menu from video settings. Use that menu to open the shaderpacks folder, put the downloaded Complementary Reimagined ZIP in that folder without extracting it, refresh the shader list if needed, and select Complementary in game.
