Pixel Perfect Shaders

A subtle, vanilla-style shader pack for Minecraft Java that runs on Iris or OptiFine and stays close to the game's original color language. Archived by its creator, so it caps out at Minecraft 1.21.1.

Pixel Perfect Shaders is a Minecraft Java shader pack built to sharpen vanilla Minecraft rather than replace its look. It runs on Iris or OptiFine and, as of its last build, reaches Minecraft 1.21.1 on both. The creator archived the project in 2024, so anyone running a newer Iris release should expect some rough edges.

Visual style and presets

The pack ships three presets, Vanilla+, Vanilla++, and Vanilla+++, each pushing further from the base game's look while keeping its color language. Wind moves foliage in individual gusts rather than one uniform sway, weather changes gust speed and direction, and each dimension gets its own wind profile. Darkness options include a Hardcore Darkness mode and a Streamer Mode toggle, and players comfortable with Python can load custom colorgrading LUTs.

  • Vanilla+: the lightest pass, closest to default Minecraft lighting.
  • Vanilla++: a middle preset with stronger shadows and color grading.
  • Vanilla+++: the most stylized preset, shown in the cover screenshot.
  • Nearly every effect, from contrast to wind speed to invisibility distortion, is user-tunable.

How to install Pixel Perfect Shaders

Pixel Perfect Shaders needs either the Iris mod or OptiFine installed first; neither is bundled with the pack, and the project has no other dependencies. Our guide to installing Minecraft shaders covers both loaders in detail.

  1. 1.Install Iris or OptiFine for your Minecraft Java version.
  2. 2.Download the Pixel Perfect Shaders zip from Modrinth.
  3. 3.Drop the zip into the shaderpacks folder without unzipping it.
  4. 4.Select Pixel Perfect from the in-game shader pack list and pick a Vanilla preset.

Version support and known issues

The last published build, version 1.5.2 from August 2024, reaches Minecraft 1.21.1 on both Iris and OptiFine. Pixel Perfect Shaders has no required dependencies beyond that loader.

Questions about Pixel Perfect Shaders.

4 questions

Does Pixel Perfect Shaders work with Iris and OptiFine?

Yes. Pixel Perfect Shaders runs on either Iris or OptiFine, and it needs no other mods or shader dependencies. Pick whichever loader you already use for Minecraft Java; the pack behaves the same on both, and its version ceiling of 1.21.1 applies equally to each.

Which Minecraft version does Pixel Perfect Shaders support?

The last release, version 1.5.2 from August 2024, reaches Minecraft 1.21.1 on Iris and OptiFine alike. The project also lists compatibility back through 1.19, but 1.21.1 is the newest version its files declare.

Is Pixel Perfect Shaders still updated?

No. The creator archived the project on Modrinth, citing a lack of time to keep it current. That means no further compatibility fixes are coming, and Iris releases newer than 2024 may expose bugs the pack was never patched to handle.

What do the Vanilla+, Vanilla++, and Vanilla+++ presets change?

Each preset pushes further from Minecraft's default look while keeping its color palette recognizable. Vanilla+ makes the smallest lighting changes, Vanilla++ adds stronger shadows and color grading, and Vanilla+++ is the most stylized option, the version shown in most of the pack's screenshots.
