DoubleHands is a Bedrock addon from areedelahi that adds a functional Java-style offhand. Items and blocks in the left hand can be placed and used while the main hand is empty or holds a tool. This doublehands addon works in single-player worlds, on Realms and on dedicated servers, and needs no experiments.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.21.132 to 26.50.

What it adds

  • Block and liquid placement from the offhand, buckets included.
  • Main hand priority as on Java: stripping logs, tilling dirt or drawing a bow stops offhand placement.
  • Farming with seeds in the offhand and a hoe in the main hand.
  • Flint and steel, tripwire hooks and most other usable items, with a few exceptions.
  • Fireworks while flying and thrown projectiles such as eggs, snowballs and wind charges. These need a tool or weapon in the main hand.
  • A Java-style offhand slot display from release 5.0.0, plus built-in dynamic lighting for emissive items.

Moving items to the offhand

Four swap methods are on by default. The /settings command opens a menu that switches each one off.

  • The "overthere" emote, which works on every device.
  • A quick double sneak on new phone controls, PC and consoles.
  • The /swap command.
  • A custom key map on keyboards, available from 26.0.

Installation

Import the .mcpack and apply it to the world. If the steps are unfamiliar, the add-on install guide covers them. The pack uses no experiments and no player.json, so it should sit alongside other addons. Releases older than 3.5.0 are meant for older game releases. The creator names CurseForge and MCPEDL as the only official sources and calls other uploads stolen.

Questions about DoubleHands.

4 questions

Does DoubleHands need experimental toggles?

No. The pack uses no experiments, so you import the .mcpack and apply it to the world. The creator adds that this should keep it working after game updates. It also avoids player.json, so it should be compatible with other addons in theory.

Does DoubleHands work on Realms and servers?

The creator states it works on Realms, dedicated servers (BDS) and single-player worlds, and that each has its own activation method. Check the project page for those steps before setting it up on a shared world.

Can I eat food from the offhand with DoubleHands?

No. Eating from the offhand is not supported, because it would need too much replacement of vanilla behavior. Blocks, buckets, flint and steel, fireworks and most projectiles do work from the offhand.

How do I move an item to the offhand in DoubleHands?

Use the overthere emote, double sneak quickly on PC, consoles or new phone controls, or run the /swap command. Keyboard players on 26.0 or later can also set a custom key map. The /settings command turns individual methods on or off.
