Collective

Collective is Serilum's shared library mod. It holds the config menus, translation system, and utility code that many other Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt mods from the same creator need to run.

Collective is a shared library mod for Minecraft Java. It packages the config menus, translation system, and utility code that all of Serilum's Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt mods rely on, so most players end up with it as a dependency rather than searching for it on its own.

What Collective actually does

Collective adds no gameplay features by itself. It centralizes code that Serilum's whole mod catalogue shares: the config file and in-game settings menu system, compatibility variables, networking code for syncing packets across loaders, and the access transformers and wideners several dependent mods need to reach private Minecraft fields. It also runs an optional async update checker and manages translation files for every mod that depends on it, so a fix or a new language only has to ship once instead of separately for each mod.

Installing Collective as a dependency

  1. 1.Check which Minecraft version and loader the Serilum mod that needs Collective targets.
  2. 2.Download the matching Collective build for that version and loader from Modrinth or CurseForge.
  3. 3.Place the Collective jar in the mods folder next to the mod that requires it.
  4. 4.Launch the game. The dependent mod's config screen and features activate automatically once Collective loads.

There's no separate setup step and nothing to configure just to get Collective running, the same way installing Fabric API works for mods built on top of it.

Compatibility across loaders and versions

Serilum ships one Collective release per Minecraft version that covers Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt together, rather than separate builds per loader. The current release is 26.2.0-8.39, matching Minecraft 26.2. Minecraft's Java Edition moved to year.drop version numbers in 2026, so 26.2 is a current release, not a typo for 1.26. Modrinth's project page lists builds reaching back to 1.16.5 for players still on older Serilum mod versions.

Configuration and update checks

Collective has its own settings menu that controls behavior shared across every mod that depends on it. Players can turn off the optional async update checker that prints to the console, decide whether entities keep their held items and armor when a dependent mod replaces them, and set how non-English translations are handled. A server can push a translation resource pack to players who do not have Collective installed, or fall back to one server-wide language instead.

Questions about Collective.

5 questions

What does the Collective mod do?

Collective doesn't add anything to Minecraft on its own. It's Serilum's shared library, holding the config system, translation files, and utility code that dozens of Serilum's Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt mods use to run. If a Serilum mod requires it, the game will not launch without Collective in the mods folder.

Why is Collective in my mods folder if I never downloaded it?

Because another mod needs it. Most of Serilum's mods list Collective as a required dependency, and a modpack or launcher usually adds it automatically alongside the mod that actually does something. Removing Collective while a dependent mod is still installed will stop that mod from loading correctly.

Does Collective work with Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt?

Yes. Serilum publishes a single release per Minecraft version that covers Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt together, and the current build reaches Minecraft 26.2. Install whichever loader build matches the mod that depends on Collective.

Is Collective safe to install?

Collective is distributed only through Modrinth and CurseForge under an all-rights-reserved license, with no separate mirror allowed by its own terms. It is one of the most downloaded Minecraft libraries on Modrinth and is required by a large share of Serilum's mod catalogue, but as with any dependency, only take a build from those two project pages.

Which Minecraft versions does Collective support?

Collective's project page lists builds going back to 1.16.5, with the current release covering Minecraft 26.2 across Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt. Older Serilum mods pin an older Collective build automatically through their own dependency metadata, so most players never have to pick a Collective version by hand.
