Cooking for Blockheads adds a multiblock kitchen to Minecraft Java, built from a cooking table, counters, an oven, a sink, and food storage that all work together. Its recipe book only shows meals you can actually make right now, pulling ingredients from your inventory and every connected kitchen block at once. The mod runs on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge, but it never runs alone: every install needs the companion library Balm.

Required dependencies

Cooking for Blockheads will not load without help. Every loader needs Balm, the shared compatibility library the creator built for their own mods, and a Fabric install also needs Fabric API for the recipe interface to render. Leave either dependency out and the game stops at a missing-mod error screen instead of reaching the title menu.

Supported loaders and Minecraft versions

  • Fabric and NeoForge builds currently reach Minecraft 26.3, the newest release as of September 2026.
  • Forge builds stop at Minecraft 1.21.11, with no Forge build for the 26.x line yet.
  • Older files reach back to Minecraft 1.18, covering the 1.19, 1.20, and 1.21 lines for legacy modpacks.

How to install Cooking for Blockheads

  1. 1.Install the Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge loader for your target Minecraft version. Our guide to installing Java mods covers the full setup.
  2. 2.Download Balm for the same loader and version, and add Fabric API as well if you are on Fabric.
  3. 3.Download the Cooking for Blockheads jar from Modrinth, matching the same loader and Minecraft version.
  4. 4.Place every jar, Cooking for Blockheads and its dependencies, in the mods folder together and launch the game.

Compatibility with other food mods and modpacks

The recipe book recognizes ingredients from other food mods, so a base built around Farmer's Delight still shows valid meals once its crops and cookware sit near the cooking table. Cooking for Blockheads is also a core feature of SkyFactory 4, where its kitchen blocks handle most of the pack's food automation.

Questions about Cooking for Blockheads.

5 questions

How do I install Cooking for Blockheads?

Install the Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge loader that matches your Minecraft version, then download Balm for the same loader and version, adding Fabric API too if you are on Fabric. Put all the jar files, Cooking for Blockheads included, in your mods folder and launch the game. A missing Balm file is the most common reason it fails to load.

Does Cooking for Blockheads need Fabric API?

Only on Fabric. Forge and NeoForge builds do not use Fabric API at all, but every loader still requires Balm, the creator's shared compatibility library. Installing Cooking for Blockheads without the required dependency for your loader stops the game from reaching the title screen.

Which Minecraft version does Cooking for Blockheads support?

Fabric and NeoForge builds currently reach Minecraft 26.3. Forge trails behind at 1.21.11, with no 26.x release yet. Older builds go back to Minecraft 1.18, so most modpacks on the 1.19 through 1.21 lines have a matching version available.

Is Cooking for Blockheads in SkyFactory 4?

Yes, Cooking for Blockheads is one of the core food-automation mods bundled in SkyFactory 4, where its multiblock kitchen handles most of the pack's cooking recipes and connects directly to the pack's other storage and farming systems.

What other Minecraft cooking mods pair well with Cooking for Blockheads?

Farmer's Delight is the most common pairing, since Cooking for Blockheads reads its crops and cooked dishes directly in the recipe book. Beyond that pair, most Minecraft cooking mods that add plain food items work fine too, since the mod simply reads whatever food already sits in connected storage and your inventory.
