The Deeper Oceans data pack and mod makes oceans twice as deep as vanilla. It comes as mod files for Fabric, NeoForge, Forge and Quilt, plus a plain data pack. Multiplayer hosts must have it installed, while joining players do not need it.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 26.2. The newest build requires Fabric API and Lithostitched; some builds for 1.18.2 to 26.1 need no dependencies; some builds for 1.20.1 to 1.21.8 require Lithostitched.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 26.2. The newest build requires Lithostitched; some builds for 1.21.11 to 26.1 need no dependencies.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.20.2, builds stopped after June 2025. The newest build requires Lithostitched; some builds for 1.18.2 to 1.20.2 need no dependencies.
- Quilt: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.20.2, builds stopped after June 2023. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What changes underwater
Oceans are twice as deep as vanilla. Vanilla ocean monuments are lowered by 20 blocks in the mod, so their legs do not look out of place on the deeper seabed. A config file lets you change both the ocean depth and the monument offset.
Two ways to install it
- 1.Choose a route. Mod files exist for Fabric, NeoForge, Forge and Quilt, and the data pack is a separate plain file.
- 2.For the mod, place the file and its required libraries, such as Lithostitched, in the mods folder (.minecraft/mods by default), then launch with the matching loader profile.
- 3.On Fabric, the newest file also needs Fabric API alongside Lithostitched.
- 4.For the data pack route, use the plain data pack file, which covers 1.18.2 to 26.2 and requires no other project.
Trade-offs
Forge and Quilt builds have stopped, so those loaders stay on older releases. Older files also differ in what they require, so check the dependency list for the exact file you pick.
Questions about Deeper Oceans.
4 questions
Is Deeper Oceans a mod or a data pack?
It is both. The project publishes mod files for Fabric, NeoForge, Forge and Quilt, and it also publishes a plain data pack. The mod includes a config file and lowers vanilla ocean monuments by 20 blocks, and the data pack requires no other project.
Does Deeper Oceans work with Tectonic?
No. Deeper Oceans is not compatible with Tectonic, because Tectonic already makes oceans deeper and the two clash in what they change. Choose one of them for a given world. Deeper Oceans makes oceans twice as deep as vanilla, and its config file adjusts the depth if you want a different value.
Do players need Deeper Oceans to join a multiplayer world?
Deeper Oceans is optional for players joining a multiplayer world and required on the host. Installing it on a joining player's side is allowed but not necessary. For a singleplayer world, install it locally like any other mod, along with the dependencies listed for the file you choose.
Can I change how deep the ocean is?
Yes. A config file changes the ocean depth and the ocean monument offset. The mod makes oceans twice as deep as vanilla and lowers vanilla ocean monuments by 20 blocks, and the config file is where you adjust both of those values.
