FallingTree is a Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge mod for Minecraft Java Edition that fells an entire tree the moment you cut through its base log. Chop one log with an axe and every connected log above it comes down with it, instead of forcing you to climb and break the trunk block by block. It runs on both the client and dedicated servers and supports Minecraft 1.16.5 through the current 26.x quarterly release.
Installation
Install the Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge loader that matches your Minecraft version first, then download the corresponding FallingTree file from its Modrinth versions page.
- 1.Install the Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge loader for your target Minecraft version.
- 2.Download the matching FallingTree build from Modrinth.
- 3.Place the jar in your .minecraft/mods folder for a client install.
- 4.Add the same jar to the server's mods folder, since FallingTree is required server-side.
- 5.Optional: install Cloth Config API, and Mod Menu on Fabric, to unlock the in-game settings screen.
Break Modes and Detection Modes
Two independent settings decide how a tree comes down. Break mode controls what happens to the blocks: an instant removal, an animated falling-block version of the same thing, or a Shift Down mode that still takes one hit per log but never leaves you stuck climbing a trunk. Detection mode controls how far the scan reaches, so a compact survival tree and a sprawling modded one can both be tuned correctly.
- Instantaneous: breaks every connected log the moment you cut one.
- Fall Item / Fall Block / Fall All Block: instant variants that add a falling-block animation instead of vanishing logs immediately.
- Shift Down: breaks only the farthest log on each hit, so a tall trunk can be cleared from the ground without climbing.
- Whole Tree detection: scans every direction for connected logs.
- Above Cut detection: scans in every direction except downward from the cutting point.
- Above Y detection: keeps only logs positioned higher than the cutting point.
Configuration
Every setting lives in FallingTree's config file, so server owners can hand-edit it without a GUI. Players who install Cloth Config API, plus Mod Menu on Fabric, get an in-game screen instead, reachable from the mod list under FallingTree's Config button.
- Sneak mode: choose whether sneaking disables the mod, enables it, or is ignored entirely.
- Allowed and denied tools: restrict which axes (including modded ones) trigger tree felling.
- Allowed and denied logs and leaves: control which blocks count as part of a tree, useful for log-block builds you do not want cut down.
- Durability mode: decide whether a tool aborts, saves at 1 durability, or breaks normally when it runs out mid-tree.
- Notification mode: send feedback in chat, the action bar, or turn it off.
Compatibility and Dependencies
FallingTree has no required dependencies beyond its loader. Fabric API, Cloth Config API, and Mod Menu are all optional, used only for the in-game settings screen. The mod reads Minecraft's #minecraft:logs and #minecraft:leaves tags, so modded trees that follow vanilla tagging conventions are recognized automatically, and anything that is not can be added to the allow list by hand.

Questions about this entry.
How do I install FallingTree?
Install the Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge loader for your Minecraft version, download the matching FallingTree file from Modrinth, and drop the jar into the .minecraft/mods folder. Because FallingTree runs on the server as well as the client, every player-facing server needs the same jar installed for multiplayer worlds.
Does FallingTree need Fabric API to work?
No. FallingTree has no required dependencies beyond its loader. Fabric API, Cloth Config API, and Mod Menu are all optional and only unlock the in-game configuration screen; the mod's config file works fine on its own without them.
Does FallingTree work with modded trees?
Yes, in most cases. FallingTree recognizes any block tagged #minecraft:logs or #minecraft:leaves, so modded trees that follow vanilla tagging are detected automatically. If a mod's logs use a nonstandard tag, you can add them manually to the allow list in the config.
Is FallingTree safe to use on multiplayer servers?
Yes. FallingTree is built to run on dedicated servers and is required server-side, not just client-side. Install the matching version on the server and every connected player gets the same tree-felling behavior, with settings like sneak-to-disable and durability handling controlled from the shared config.
Which Minecraft version does FallingTree support?
FallingTree supports Minecraft Java Edition from 1.16.5 through the current 26.x quarterly release, with separate builds for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge. Check the Modrinth versions page for the exact build that matches your Minecraft version and loader before downloading.
