InvMove is a Fabric, NeoForge and Forge mod for Java Edition that lets you move, jump, sprint and dismount while a screen like your inventory, a chest or a crafting table is open, instead of locking you in place. It only runs where the screens actually appear, so there is nothing to add on a multiplayer server.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.16 to 26.3. The newest build requires Cloth Config API, optionally InvMoveCompats, Fabric API and Mod Menu; some builds for 1.16 to 1.20.4 require Cloth Config API and Fabric API; some builds for 1.18.1 to 1.18.2 need no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.3. The newest build requires Cloth Config API, optionally InvMoveCompats.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.16 to 1.20.6. The newest build requires Cloth Config API, optionally InvMoveCompats; some builds for 1.18.1 to 1.18.2 need no dependencies.
- Quilt: Minecraft 1.18 to 1.20.6, builds stopped after April 2024. The newest build requires Cloth Config API; some builds for 1.18 to 1.20.4 require Cloth Config API and Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) / Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL).
What it changes in a screen
Two features drive the mod. Movement lets vanilla and modded screens accept walking, jumping, sprinting and mount dismounting while they're open, and a second toggle hides the darkened background tint on screens that don't pause the game. Both can be switched on or off per screen type, vanilla or modded, from the in-game settings menu, which the newest builds build on Cloth Config API.
- Move In Inventories, with an optional keybind to toggle it on the fly
- Sneak Mode set to off, maintained from before the screen opened, or only while the sneak key is held
- Allow Dismounting, which overrides sneak handling while riding something
- Text Field Disables Movement, so search bars and anvil inputs don't fight with movement keys
- Hide Inventory Backgrounds, plus a separate rule for screens that pause single-player worlds
Compatibility and anticheat
Support for inventory-adjacent mods like REI, JEI and EMI lives in a separate InvMoveCompats addon rather than in InvMove itself, so those compatibility fixes only apply if that addon is also added. On Fabric, Mod Menu is what opens InvMove's settings screen.
Installing it
- 1.Set up the loader that matches the target build, following the Fabric or Forge and NeoForge setup steps
- 2.Drop the InvMove jar and Cloth Config's jar into the mods folder
- 3.Add Fabric API and Mod Menu on Fabric where the build calls for them
- 4.Launch the matching loader profile and open the settings menu to adjust per-screen behavior
Questions about InvMove.
5 questions
Will InvMove get me banned on a server?
It can. Moving during an open screen is a pattern many anticheat plugins flag as suspicious, so using InvMove on a public server carries a real risk of a ban even though the mod runs only on the connecting side.
Do I need Mod Menu to use InvMove?
On Fabric, Mod Menu is what opens InvMove's settings screen. Without it, there is no in-game menu to reach the movement and background toggles.
Does InvMove work with REI, JEI or EMI?
Not on its own. Those recipe-viewer compatibility fixes were split into a separate InvMoveCompats addon, so it needs to be added alongside InvMove for that support.
What exactly does InvMove let me do in an inventory?
It lets you walk, jump, sprint and dismount from a mount while a screen like an inventory, chest or crafting table is open, and it can hide the darkened background tint on screens that don't pause the game.
Can I turn InvMove's features off for specific screens?
Yes. Both movement and background-tint hiding can be toggled per screen type, including modded ones, from expandable categories in the settings menu rather than only as one global switch.
