Iron Furnaces adds nine furnace tiers to the game, Copper and Iron up through Diamond, Emerald, Crystal, Obsidian, Silver, and Netherite, each one built to smelt faster and burn fuel more efficiently than a vanilla furnace. It's a standalone Forge and NeoForge mod for Minecraft Java Edition with no required dependencies, and both the client and the server need it installed. NeoForge builds currently reach 26.1.2; Forge's last full release covers 1.20.4.
What Iron Furnaces changes in Minecraft
Every tier above vanilla replaces slow single-item smelting with a faster furnace that burns fuel more efficiently, so the Netherite Furnace at the top end clears a stack of ore in a fraction of the time a vanilla furnace takes. Furnace augments (Speed, Fuel Efficiency, Blasting, Factory, Generator, and Smoker) slot into an upgraded furnace to change how it behaves, and a Wireless Heater Block paired with a Wireless Heat Receiver lets a furnace draw heat without a direct fuel source nearby.

NeoForge is the actively updated loader here, with a release build at 26.1.2 published in June 2026 under Minecraft's newer year.drop versioning. Forge's last full release build covers up to 1.20.4, though a newer 1.20.6 beta build exists for players comfortable running a pre-release. There's no current Fabric release on Modrinth: Qelifern published an early official Fabric build back in the 1.18.x era, but it went inactive while Forge stayed the main focus. A separate CurseForge listing offers an unofficial Fabric and NeoForge port for 26.1 and up, built by someone other than Qelifern as a continuation of the original project, not an official Fabric build of this mod.
