Minecraft Transit Railway is a Java mod for building your own transport network with automated trains, boats, cable cars and planes. It runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge, and it must be installed on both the client and the server.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.16.2 to 1.21.4. The newest build requires Fabric API.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 1.21.4. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.16.2 to 1.20.4. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.16.5 to 1.20.1 require Architectury API.
What the 4.0.0 rewrite adds
Vehicle simulation now runs separately from the Minecraft instance, which greatly reduces lag on multiplayer servers. The rewrite also brings a long list of features.
- Custom train configuration, realistic bogies and train movement
- Improved signalling and sideways elevators
- OBJ features ported over from Nemo's Transit Expansion
- A vehicle swaying effect
- A new online system map with OneBusAway integration
- Client FPS and server TPS improvements
Installing and adding addons
The mod is required on both the client and the server, installed through the usual route in the guide to installing Java mods. On Fabric, Mod Menu is optional but gives an easy way to change the mod's settings.
The creator lists four addons as worth trying: MTR London Underground Addon, Joban Client Mod, Station Decoration and Russian Metro Addon.
Trade-offs to know
The mod will not be updated for older Minecraft releases. The source is public on GitHub, so anyone is free to port it. The newest Fabric and NeoForge files are betas, while the newest Forge file is a full release.
Getting started with Minecraft Transit Railway 4.0.0
Questions about Minecraft Transit Railway.
3 questions
Does Minecraft Transit Railway work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, but it is required on both sides. The host installs it on the server and every player installs it on their client. The 4.0.0 rewrite separates vehicle simulation from the Minecraft instance, which the creator says greatly reduces lag on servers.
Will Minecraft Transit Railway be updated for older Minecraft releases?
No. The creator states the mod will not be updated for any older Minecraft release. The source code is public on GitHub under the MIT License, so anyone who wants an older port is free to make one themselves.
Do I need to worry about addon compatibility?
Yes. Addons must match the latest release of the mod, and mismatched addons will not work. Check each addon before updating, and back up your worlds first. The creator names MTR London Underground Addon, Joban Client Mod, Station Decoration and Russian Metro Addon as recommended.
