OptiGUI is a client-side Fabric and Quilt mod that lets custom resource packs restyle Minecraft's inventory, chest, furnace, and other container screens, the way OptiFine's custom GUI textures used to before OptiFine dropped that feature on newer versions. It needs Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin installed alongside it, runs from Minecraft 1.18 through the current 26.3 release, and only ships for Fabric and Quilt.
Installation
- 1.Install Fabric loader or Quilt loader for your target Minecraft version.
- 2.Download OptiGUI from Modrinth, CurseForge, or GitHub Releases.
- 3.Download the required Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin mods.
- 4.Download a resource pack with OptiFine or OptiGUI custom GUI textures.
- 5.Put OptiGUI, Fabric API, and Fabric Language Kotlin in the mods folder, then apply the resource pack.
Supported Minecraft versions and loaders
OptiGUI publishes for Fabric and Quilt only. The newest build, 2.3.0-beta.10, reached Minecraft 26.3 on September 18, 2026, and the project's version history runs back to 1.18 on both loaders. There is no Forge or NeoForge release on Modrinth or CurseForge, so players on those loaders cannot use it. Some third-party download listings show an older or narrower version ceiling than the current release; check the Modrinth versions page linked above for the build that matches your game version.
Compatibility with OptiFine GUI resource packs
OptiGUI reads most existing OptiFine custom GUI resource packs directly, plus its own OptiGUI-format packs, which support more customization options than the OptiFine format allowed. A pack that behaves differently than it did under OptiFine, or fails to load, usually needs a pack-side fix rather than pointing at a bug in OptiGUI. The optional Animatica dependency adds support for animated GUI textures beyond what OptiGUI handles on its own.
Questions about OptiGUI.
5 questions
How do I install OptiGUI?
Install Fabric loader or Quilt loader for your Minecraft version, then download OptiGUI plus its required Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin mods into the mods folder. Apply an OptiFine or OptiGUI custom GUI resource pack afterward to see the textures change.
Does OptiGUI work with Forge or NeoForge?
No. OptiGUI only publishes builds for Fabric and Quilt. There is no Forge or NeoForge release on Modrinth, CurseForge, or GitHub, so players on those loaders need a different mod or no custom GUI textures at all.
Which Minecraft version does OptiGUI support?
OptiGUI's current release reaches Minecraft 26.3 on both Fabric and Quilt, with version support going back to 1.18. Always match the OptiGUI build to your installed Fabric or Quilt loader version rather than assuming the newest file works on an older game version.
Does OptiGUI work with OptiFine resource packs?
Yes. OptiGUI reads most OptiFine custom GUI resource packs directly, since it was built to replace OptiFine's custom GUI feature on Fabric and Quilt. It also supports its own OptiGUI-format packs, which offer more customization than the original OptiFine format.
Is OptiGUI safe to use?
OptiGUI is distributed under the LGPL-3.0 license from its official Modrinth, CurseForge, and GitHub pages. Download it only from those official sources rather than a third-party mirror, and pair it with the exact Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin versions it lists as dependencies.
