What ScalableLux works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |

| Loaders | Fabric, NeoForge |
| Minecraft versions | 1.21, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3 |
| Environment | Client, Server |
ScalableLux is a Fabric and NeoForge mod that speeds up light updates, aiming well past the speed of the stock lighting engine. It continues the work of Starlight after that project stopped receiving mod updates, and it runs whether only the player side or only a hosted world has it installed.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
Why this fork exists
- Vanilla lighting is still a bottleneck for high-performance chunk generation; the base Starlight work was already roughly twice as fast and let chunk generation scale past 24 threads.
- Its stateless design allows light updates to run in parallel, which matters most on dedicated worlds pushing chunk generation with many players connected.
What it changes
- Carries over every performance improvement from Starlight along with additional bug fixes.
- Adds an optional parallel light-update path that shows its biggest gains during fast world generation and heavy light-update scenarios.
Installing ScalableLux
Match the release to the loader and Minecraft release already running, then place the mod file alongside any other mods. Someone setting up a loader for the first time can follow the Fabric setup guide or the NeoForge setup guide; general steps for adding any mod file are covered in the mod install guide.
Questions about ScalableLux.
3 questions
What does ScalableLux do that Starlight does not?
Starlight stopped receiving mod updates in March 2024. ScalableLux keeps its performance work going, folds in extra bug fixes, and adds an optional parallel light-update path aimed specifically at fast world generation and heavy light-update situations.
Does ScalableLux need Fabric API or any other library?
No. The newest release on both Fabric and NeoForge needs nothing else installed alongside it, which keeps setup to just placing the mod file where mods go.
Can ScalableLux run on only one side, like a hosted world without it on the players' end?
Yes. It works with either side running it alone, since it's listed with client optional and server optional support rather than requiring both.
