Spore Inquisition is a datapack for Fungal Infection: Spore that also ships as a mod for NeoForge and Forge. It replaces the dark-spawning infection with one that spreads from Mounds, closer to the flesh that hates. It is required on the server and optional on the player's side.

Loaders and versions

  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 1.21.11. The newest build requires Fungal Infection:Spore; some builds for 1.21.1 to 1.21.11 need no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.20.1. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.20.1 require Fungal Infection:Spore.

What the datapack changes

Infected no longer spawn in the dark. Mounds are now the main source of infection, and the spread is mostly land-focused, so caves see far less of it and Proto Hiveminds stop appearing underground. The effect ignores dimensions: once a Proto Hivemind exists, the infection follows the closest player to it. A Mound named REDNIGHT falls near spawn when the world starts and cannot be killed until a certain event happens.

  • Hunger timers apply to infected, evolved, hypers and gastgabers. Evolveds can eat biomass bulbs to stop hunger, while hypers and gastgabers cannot and perish.
  • Mounds create spore creatures, later produce infected humans, and leave a scamper behind when they die.
  • A reconstructed mind needs 2500 kills to evolve instead of 40, offset by a new mechanic of big biomass towers.
  • Calamities with 200 or more kills become overcharged, turn pitch black, and gain speed, damage and resistance.
  • Infected mobs do not despawn unless the infected limit is reached or a Proto removes them.

It adds extra Create recipes and structures when that mod is present, plus compatibility with Cracker's Wither Storm Mod, Alex's Mobs and Better Combat.

Installation

Put the NeoForge or Forge jar in the mods folder next to Fungal Infection: Spore, following the Java mod install guide. NeoForge builds from 4.0 onward install their configs automatically. Older builds need the configs from the description and pinned comment of the creator's configs tutorial video, and they must be redownloaded after each update.

The creator also recommends a TPS performance mod, Canary on Forge or Lithium on NeoForge.

Questions about Spore Inquisition.

4 questions

Does Spore Inquisition need Fungal Infection Spore?

Yes. It is an add-on that rewrites how the infection from Fungal Infection: Spore spreads, and the creator states the mod is required. The newest NeoForge build lists it as a dependency, so install it alongside Spore Inquisition.

Is Spore Inquisition a datapack or a mod?

Both. Spore Inquisition is a datapack that changes how the infection in Fungal Infection: Spore spreads, and it also has builds for NeoForge and Forge. The NeoForge and Forge builds go in the mods folder next to Fungal Infection: Spore, and the newest NeoForge build lists that mod as a dependency.

Does Spore Inquisition work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. It is required on the server and optional on the player's side, so a server running it does not force every player to install it.

Which Spore Inquisition version should I play?

The creator advises playing 1.21.1 instead of 1.20.1. Whichever you pick, redownload the configs after each update, except on NeoForge 4.0 or later, which installs them automatically. The newest NeoForge build also requires Fungal Infection: Spore, so install that mod alongside it.
