Status Effect Bars is a Fabric and Quilt mod for Minecraft Java that replaces the vanilla status effects display, a small row of icons in the top right corner that only shows exact time remaining when hovered, with a labeled bar per effect showing its icon and remaining duration at a glance. It is client-side only, so it works on any server without needing to be installed there, and its Fabric and Quilt builds both currently reach Minecraft 26.3.

Installation on Fabric and Quilt

  1. 1.Install Fabric Loader or Quilt Loader for the Minecraft version you play on.
  2. 2.Download Cloth Config API, a required dependency, and place it in the mods folder.
  3. 3.Download Status Effect Bars from Modrinth and add it to the same mods folder.
  4. 4.Optional: install Mod Menu to open the mod's settings screen in-game instead of editing its config file by hand.

Cloth Config API is a hard requirement; Status Effect Bars will not load without it. Mod Menu stays optional, but without it, changing bar colors or layout means editing the config file directly, since there is no other in-game settings screen.

Forge and NeoForge users

The original Status Effect Bars project only ships Fabric and Quilt builds. Players on Forge or NeoForge instead use Status Effect Bars Reforged, a separate CurseForge listing built and maintained by a different developer, Project8gbDeRam, whose page credits A5b84 for the original Fabric version. Treat it as a distinct continuation rather than an official port, since it comes from a different author with its own release history.

Customizing bar layout and colors

  • Reposition bars almost anywhere on screen, including inside the inventory.
  • Recolor backgrounds and text per effect type.
  • Beacon effects hide from the bar list automatically to cut down on clutter.

Questions about Status Effect Bars.

5 questions

How do I install Status Effect Bars?

Install Fabric Loader or Quilt Loader, then add Cloth Config API to your mods folder, since it is a required dependency. Download Status Effect Bars from Modrinth into the same folder. Mod Menu is optional and adds an in-game settings screen instead of hand-editing the config file.

Does Status Effect Bars work with Forge or NeoForge?

No, the original Modrinth project only builds for Fabric and Quilt. Forge and NeoForge players use Status Effect Bars Reforged instead, a separate continuation on CurseForge built by developer Project8gbDeRam, who credits A5b84 for the original Fabric version.

Which Minecraft version does Status Effect Bars support?

The Fabric and Quilt builds both reach Minecraft 26.3 as of their latest release on June 18, 2026. Older builds go back to Minecraft 1.17.1, so players on earlier versions still have a compatible build available.

Is Status Effect Bars compatible with Mod Menu?

Yes. Mod Menu is an optional dependency that adds an in-game settings screen for adjusting bar colors and layout. Status Effect Bars still works without it, using its default configuration file instead.

Is Status Effect Bars safe to use?

It ships under the LGPL-3.0-only license from its official Modrinth page and its GitHub source repository, maintained by developer A5b84. Download it only from Modrinth or the linked GitHub repository, not from unrelated mirror sites.
