What ThreadTweak works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, Quilt |
| Minecraft versions | 1.20, 1.20.6, 1.21.11 |
| Environment | Client, Server |
ThreadTweak is a Fabric and Quilt mod that lets you tune how Minecraft schedules CPU work, changing thread counts and thread priorities. It works on the client, the server or both, as neither side is required. It is a maintained fork of Smooth Boot, published by getchoo with permission from the original author, UltimateBoomer.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric and Quilt: Minecraft 1.20 to 1.21.11. The newest build requires Fabric API.
What it changes
Smooth Boot was made to speed up launching. That problem was fixed in Minecraft 1.19.4, so ThreadTweak keeps the part that still matters: adjusting thread priorities, which can still help on some systems.
- Change the number of threads used by Minecraft executors.
- Change the thread priority of each thread.
- Configure everything in the mod config.
Do not expect a speed-up over the original. ThreadTweak is the final Smooth Boot code kept alive for newer releases, with extra features added only on request or when time allows. Gains are system-specific, so treat it as a tweak to test rather than a guaranteed boost.
Installation
- 1.Install Fabric or Quilt for your Minecraft release, following the guide on installing Fabric if you are new to it.
- 2.Place the ThreadTweak file and the Fabric API file in the mods folder inside .minecraft.
- 3.Launch with the Fabric or Quilt profile.
For general steps on adding mods, see the guide to installing Java mods. The mod is MIT licensed and its source and issue tracker are on GitHub.
Questions about ThreadTweak.
4 questions
What does ThreadTweak do?
ThreadTweak lets you change how many threads Minecraft executors use and set the priority of each thread, all from the mod config. It is a maintained fork of Smooth Boot, aimed at players who want to adjust CPU scheduling on their own system.
Is ThreadTweak still useful after Smooth Boot's fix in 1.19.4?
The original launch-time problem was fixed in Minecraft 1.19.4, so that is no longer the point. The creator keeps the mod because adjusting thread priorities can still help on some systems. It is not faster than Smooth Boot itself.
Does ThreadTweak work on multiplayer servers?
Yes. The mod lists both client and server as optional sides, so you can install it on a server, on a client, or on both. It runs on Fabric and Quilt, and needs Fabric API alongside it.
Does ThreadTweak work on Forge or NeoForge?
No. Builds exist only for Fabric and Quilt, so a Forge or NeoForge setup cannot load it. Players on those loaders would need a different mod for thread tuning.
