Twilight Forest opens a fully separate dimension in Minecraft Java, reached through a portal built from a grass frame topped with flowers and filled with water instead of the usual obsidian frame. Inside, progress is gated behind eight boss fights spread across distinct biomes, each with its own dungeons, mobs, and loot. It runs on Fabric, Quilt, and NeoForge through Minecraft 1.21.1, and on Forge through 1.20.1, and needs installing on both the client and the server.
How progression works
The dimension locks later biomes behind a boss gate: defeating the guardian of one area opens the barrier into the next, so players move from the Hedge Maze and Hollow Hills toward tougher fights like the Twilight Lich, the Hydra, and the Alpha Yeti before reaching the Final Castle. Dungeons carry their own traps, puzzle mechanics, and loot that does not appear anywhere else in vanilla Minecraft.

Loader and version support
Fabric and Quilt share the newest build, reaching Minecraft 1.21.1. NeoForge also tops out at 1.21.1 on its own release line. Forge support stops at 1.20.1: the team has not shipped a Forge build past that version, which is a normal split for an actively developed multi-loader project rather than a sign the mod is abandoned on Forge.
Installation and dependencies
Twilight Forest has no required dependencies. Drop the correct loader-specific jar into the mods folder and it runs on its own. Because it adds a dimension, install the matching version on both the client and the server, or connecting players can desync or fail to load the world correctly.
