Announcer Plus is an announcer plugin for Folia and Paper servers, written by jpenilla. It handles custom join and quit messages and timed auto-broadcasts, and every message is parsed with MiniMessage. It runs on the server only, so players join with a normal client and install nothing.

Server software and versions

  • Folia and Paper: Minecraft 1.8.8 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What it does

  • Join and quit messages assigned by permission, with an optional separate config for a player's first join.
  • Extras on join or quit: broadcasts, commands, sounds, titles, boss bars, action bars and toast achievements.
  • Timed broadcasts with randomised order, sounds and the same display types.
  • Animations for titles, subtitles, boss bars and action bars, plus hover and click actions, gradients and hex colors.
  • Join and quit broadcasts are suppressed for vanished players, including those hidden by SuperVanish or EssentialsX vanish.

Installation

Place the plugin file in the plugins folder and restart the server. If you have not done this before, the guide on how to install plugins on a Minecraft server covers it. Join and quit configs are created in `plugins/AnnouncerPlus/joinquit/`, and broadcast configs in `plugins/AnnouncerPlus/messages/`.

PlaceholderAPI is optional but worth adding. Any of its placeholders then work inside join, quit and broadcast text.

Permissions and commands

Nothing is shown to a player until a permission assigns it. Give a group `announcerplus.join.default` and `announcerplus.quit.default` to enable the bundled join and quit messages, or `announcerplus.messages.demo` for the demo broadcasts. Adding `.afk` to a messages permission stops those broadcasts reaching AFK players. Random selection from a group of configs is set up in `main.conf`.

  • `/announcerplus reload` reloads all configs (`announcerplus.reload`).
  • `/announcerplus broadcast` and `/announcerplus send` push a message to everyone or to chosen players.
  • `/announcerplus parse` and `parseanimation` test message syntax before you publish it.
  • `/announcerplus list` shows the messages in a config, and `help` needs no permission.

The trade-off is setup effort. Expect to spend time in the config files and on MiniMessage syntax. The wiki documents the syntax and animations.

Questions about Announcer Plus.

4 questions

Does Announcer Plus work on Folia?

Yes. Folia and Paper are the two server platforms the plugin lists, and the newest release covers Minecraft 1.8.8 to 26.3 on both. It is a server-side plugin, so players do not need to install anything to see the messages.

How do I give players custom join messages with Announcer Plus?

Edit or add a config in the joinquit folder, then give the player or group the matching permission, for example announcerplus.join.default. Do the same with announcerplus.quit.default for quit messages. Run /announcerplus reload after changes so the configs are reloaded.

Does Announcer Plus need a permissions plugin?

Messages are assigned through permission nodes such as announcerplus.join.default and announcerplus.messages.demo, so you grant them to a player or group through your permissions setup. Operators are a special case, since they commonly see duplicate join and quit messages unless you negate the nodes you do not want them to have.

Can Announcer Plus use PlaceholderAPI placeholders?

Yes. PlaceholderAPI is optional, and when it is installed, join and quit messages and all broadcasts are parsed for its placeholders. The plugin works without it, but you lose dynamic values such as player nicknames or balances.
