AuraSkills adds an RPG skill system to Paper, Purpur, Folia, and Spigot servers: eleven skills that level up from everyday Minecraft actions, stat buffs, and mana-gated active and passive abilities. Formerly known as Aurelium Skills, the plugin's current build runs on Minecraft 1.20 through 26.2 and needs Java 21 or newer.

Skills, stats, and mana abilities

Players gain XP toward eleven default skills, Farming, Foraging, Mining, Fishing, Excavation, Archery, Defense, Fighting, Agility, Enchanting, and Alchemy, through the Minecraft actions tied to each one. Most skills unlock two stats and up to five passive abilities as they level, and some grant a mana ability that costs mana and has a cooldown when activated. Every player-facing screen, from the skill overview to leaderboards, opens through fully configurable inventory menus rather than chat output.

Commands and permissions

The core commands sit behind their own permission nodes, so a server can hand out access selectively instead of all at once.

  • /skills opens the skill overview menu (auraskills.command.skills)
  • /stats opens the stat overview menu (auraskills.command.stats)
  • /[skill], such as /farming or /archery, opens that skill's level progression menu directly
  • /sk top [skill] [page], or /skilltop, shows leaderboards for one skill, the level sum, or the average
  • /mana shows a player's current mana (auraskills.command.mana)

Permission nodes also control per-skill XP multipliers, formatted as auraskills.multiplier.[percent] or auraskills.multiplier.[skill].[percent], so a plugin like LuckPerms can grant a rank-specific XP boost without touching the config file.

Compatible plugins and known conflicts

AuraSkills hooks directly into a short list of plugins rather than trying to replace them. Vault enables money rewards and the jobs feature once an economy plugin such as EssentialsX is installed, and WorldGuard adds custom flags to control where players can gain XP or place and break blocks.

CraftBukkit loses the action bar and is not supported. Modded hybrid servers such as Arclight, Mohist, Magma, and CatServer are not supported either, since Bukkit plugins generally do not behave correctly in a modded environment, and offline-mode servers get no Discord support because of Mojang's terms of service.

Installation and Minecraft version support

Drop the jar into your plugins folder on a Paper, Purpur, or Folia server and restart. Spigot still works but is no longer recommended, since Paper is a drop-in replacement with better performance. AuraSkills needs Java 21 or newer, and the wiki recommends always running the latest available Minecraft version.

The current build requires Minecraft 1.20 or newer and runs through 26.2. Servers still on 1.14.4 through 1.19.4 need an older AuraSkills release from the version history instead of the latest build, since the current build dropped support for those older versions.

Questions about AuraSkills.

5 questions

How do I install AuraSkills?

Drop the AuraSkills jar into your server's plugins folder on a Paper, Purpur, Folia, or Spigot server running Java 21 or newer, then restart. Paper is the developers' recommended choice, since Spigot is no longer recommended. No separate API or library plugin is required to run it.

Does AuraSkills work on Folia?

Yes. The official wiki lists Paper, Purpur, Folia, and Spigot as supported server software, with Spigot marked not recommended and Paper treated as the drop-in replacement. Folia uses the same install as Paper: drop in the jar and restart, no extra configuration needed.

Which Minecraft version does AuraSkills support?

The current build, 2.3.12, requires Minecraft 1.20 or newer and runs through 26.2. Servers on Minecraft 1.14.4 through 1.19.4 need an older AuraSkills release from the Modrinth version history instead of the latest build, since current support starts at 1.20.

Does AuraSkills need a permissions plugin?

No. Every command and skill has a permission node with a sensible default, so AuraSkills works without a separate permissions plugin. Adding one, such as LuckPerms, lets admins grant specific commands, skills, or per-skill XP multiplier nodes to individual ranks.

Does AuraSkills work with Vault and WorldGuard?

Yes, both are supported hooks rather than requirements. Vault enables money rewards and the jobs feature once an economy plugin such as EssentialsX is installed, and WorldGuard adds custom flags to control where players gain XP or can break and place blocks.
