ExcellentCrates

NightExpress built ExcellentCrates as a crates plugin with an in-game GUI editor for setting up rewards, keys and hologram effects without hand-editing config files. It runs on Paper, Purpur and Spigot and needs the NightCore library to function.

ExcellentCrates is a crates plugin from NightExpress that swaps the usual YAML-only crate setup for an in-game GUI editor covering rewards, keys, holograms and opening animations. It runs on Paper, Purpur and Spigot for Minecraft 1.21.3 to 1.21.11 and installs server-side only, so players just join as usual to open crates in the world.

Server software and versions

  • Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.21.3 to 1.21.11. The newest build requires NightCore, optionally PacketEvents.

What it adds

Crates can be handed out as physical items or triggered from blocks linked in the editor, with separate physical and virtual key types so keys can be tradeable or locked to a single player. Rewards support rarities, auto-scaling weights and selectable pools instead of pure chance, plus per-player and global limits so a reward can't be rolled out endlessly.

  • In-game GUI editor for crates, rewards, keys and previews
  • Custom item support for Nexo, ItemsAdder, Oraxen, ExecutableItems and MMOItems
  • Built-in holograms and particle effects on crate blocks
  • Milestones that reward a player after a set number of openings in a row
  • PlaceholderAPI support for showing crate data elsewhere

Installation and dependencies

The newest release needs NightCore running alongside it as a plugin engine; without it ExcellentCrates won't load. Crate holograms are optional and read from either PacketEvents or ProtocolLib, so an admin can keep whichever packet library already runs on the server instead of adding a second one. Folia isn't supported, and the plugin needs Java 21 to start.

Questions about ExcellentCrates.

5 questions

How do I install ExcellentCrates on a Paper server

Place the ExcellentCrates and NightCore plugin files in the plugins folder of a Paper, Purpur or Spigot server running Minecraft 1.21.3 to 1.21.11, then restart the server so both load together.

Does ExcellentCrates work on Velocity or Folia

Folia support is explicitly not offered. It's built for Paper, Purpur and Spigot rather than a proxy setup.

Does ExcellentCrates need a permissions plugin

It has its own permission requirements per crate and per reward, so a permissions plugin is useful for gating access, though nothing in the pack names a required one beyond that.

What custom item plugins does ExcellentCrates support

It reads items from Nexo, ItemsAdder, Oraxen, ExecutableItems and MMOItems, so crate rewards can use custom items from any of those instead of vanilla items only.

What does ExcellentCrates need to run holograms

Hologram display is optional and needs either PacketEvents or ProtocolLib present on the server; without one of those two, crate holograms simply won't appear.
