Hunger Games

A server plugin that recreates the classic 2012 last-player-standing mode, with several arenas, solo and team play, tiered chests and a shrinking border.

Hunger Games is a Hunger Games plugin for Minecraft that runs on Paper, Purpur and Spigot servers. It is inspired by the classic 2012 mode: players scramble for resources, fight each other and try to be the last one alive. It is Java only and lives on the server, so players join with a normal client and install nothing.

Server software and versions

  • Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.20 to 1.21.11. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally PacketEvents; some builds for 1.20 to 1.21.5 require PacketEvents.

What it adds

  • Multiple arenas and maps, with easy switching between them, and block breaking that is restored after each round.
  • Four tiers of chests with customizable loot, plus automatic refills and supply drops at intervals.
  • A world border that shrinks over time.
  • Solo, Duo, Trios and Versus modes, with a vote on the mode, automatic or manual team allocation and team chat.
  • Spectating after death, with teleports to living players, and a compass that tracks the nearest enemies and teammates.
  • Individual scoreboards, customizable announcements and tips, and per-player language support.
  • Custom commands that run at the start and end of a round.

Installation

Put the plugin file in the plugins folder of your server and restart it. The plugin installation guide covers the steps if this is your first one. The plugin has a full wiki powered by Docusaurus, and one command reloads the plugin's config files.

Stats and placeholders

Player stats can be stored persistently through a MySQL integration. The plugin also integrates with PlaceholderAPI for individual player stats and top global stats.

Questions about Hunger Games.

4 questions

How do I install the Hunger Games plugin?

Download the plugin file from Modrinth, place it in the plugins folder of your Paper, Purpur or Spigot server and restart the server. Players do not install anything. The plugin also has a full wiki powered by Docusaurus and a Discord community.

Which Minecraft versions does Hunger Games support?

Paper, Purpur and Spigot are covered for Minecraft 1.20 to 1.21.11. It is a Java Edition plugin only, so Bedrock servers cannot run it. Check the dependency notes in the server software section before choosing an older release.

Does Hunger Games work with PlaceholderAPI?

Yes. The plugin integrates with PlaceholderAPI to provide individual player stats and top global stats as placeholders. Persistent stat storage is a separate MySQL integration. Both integrations are listed among the plugin's features. Questions about either one can go to the plugin's GitHub issues or its Discord community.

Can players join Hunger Games without installing anything?

Yes. It is a server plugin, so players connect with a normal Java Edition client. The client side is unsupported, meaning installing the plugin on a player's own game does nothing. Only the server needs the file.
