The zMenu plugin builds custom inventory GUI menus and commands from YAML files. Administrators need no coding, and developers get a complete API for integration. It runs on Paper, compatible Paper forks and Folia, on the server side only, so players install nothing.

Server software and versions

  • Bukkit, Folia, Paper and Spigot: Minecraft 1.8 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Purpur: Minecraft 1.8.8 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What zMenu does

  • Menus and commands defined in YAML, with several pages inside one inventory.
  • A pattern system for reusable layouts and button templates, so you stop pasting the same configuration.
  • More than 40 actions, conditional requirements and click handlers.
  • Over 30 item components for the item system introduced in 1.20.5.
  • Animated inventory titles, which need PacketEvents.
  • Support for PlaceholderAPI, including local overrides.

An online editor, the Inventory Builder, is available at minecraft-inventory-builder.com. Documentation lives at docs.groupez.dev.

Installation and requirements

  1. 1.Download zMenu from Modrinth and place the plugin file in the plugins folder.
  2. 2.Restart the server. The plugin install guide covers the basics.
  3. 3.Define your menus and commands in YAML configuration files.

Java 21 or newer is required. Paper 26.1 and newer needs Java 25.

Bedrock and optional hooks

Bedrock players can open menus through Geyser and Floodgate. The plugin also lists 26 optional hooks for plugins such as ItemsAdder, Oraxen, LuckPerms and MythicMobs, so nothing extra is required until you want one of those integrations.

Questions about zMenu.

4 questions

How do I install zMenu?

Download the plugin file from Modrinth, put it in the plugins folder of your Paper or compatible server, and restart. Java 21 or newer is required, and Paper 26.1 and newer needs Java 25.

Does zMenu work on Folia?

Yes. The README states that zMenu supports Paper, compatible Paper forks and Folia, and Modrinth lists Folia builds for the full range of supported Minecraft releases. The newest Folia build needs no dependencies, so you can install it on its own.

Does zMenu still support Spigot?

Since 1.1.1.6 the README describes zMenu as Paper-only and says Spigot servers are no longer supported. It asks for Paper 1.19 or newer, a compatible Paper fork or Folia, plus Java 21 or newer. Paper 26.1 and newer needs Java 25.

Can Bedrock players use zMenu menus?

Yes, through Geyser and Floodgate. zMenu lists Bedrock support via that pair of plugins. Install and configure Geyser and Floodgate first, then build your menus as usual. The feature list places Bedrock support under the zMenu+ addon, so check the documentation at docs.groupez.dev for what your setup needs.
