Allium Shaders is clorece's Iris-only edit of Complementary Unbound, pushed toward colored lighting, ambient occlusion and screen-space path tracing rather than Complementary's neutral daylight look. The project lists compatibility back to Minecraft 1.8.9, but the current build (v2.1.2) tops out at 1.21.11 with no 26.x support yet.

Effects and visual style

  • Screen-space path tracing layered on top of colored lighting
  • Ambient occlusion and global illumination for interiors and overhangs
  • A reworked sky and End dimension, including a stylized gas-giant skybox
  • Water reflections and parallax tuned for the same fantasy-leaning palette

Installing Allium Shaders

  1. 1.Install the Iris mod for your Minecraft Java version; Allium does not ship an OptiFine build.
  2. 2.Download the shader pack zip from the official Modrinth page, without unzipping it.
  3. 3.Drop the zip into your instance's shaderpacks folder from the in-game Video Settings menu.
  4. 4.Select Allium from the shader pack list and apply.

Version support and known limits

Allium's release channel is capped at 1.21.11 as of December 2025, and the path-traced effects are heavier than a typical Complementary edit, so budget GPUs should expect to drop presets before reaching for the top settings. Server-side, this is a client-only visual pack with nothing to install on a server.

Where Allium comes from

Allium is credited on its own Modrinth page as an edit of Complementary Unbound, made by Emin. The license file bundled with Allium, though, is titled the Serie Shaderpack License 1.0 and names Serie's GitHub repository as the official project page. Serie is clorece's separate, newer shader, described in its own repository as the path-traced successor to Allium and the planned base for a future Allium rewrite. That rewrite has not shipped: the version available today is still the Complementary Unbound edit, running under a license carried over from the Serie project. Neither license restricts a site from linking to or writing about the shader, only from redistributing an unmodified copy of it as a standalone file, so this page points to Modrinth rather than hosting the download.

Questions about Allium Shaders.

5 questions

Is Allium based on Complementary Shaders?

Yes. Allium is a creative edit of Complementary Unbound, the shader made by Emin. The creator, clorece, credits Complementary Unbound as the base and reworks its colors, lighting and atmosphere into a distinct look rather than changing settings alone.

What is Serie, and is Allium built on it?

Serie is a separate, newer path-traced shader by the same creator, clorece. It is not what the current Allium download is built on. Allium's own project page says a rewrite based on Serie is planned for a future update, so today's release still runs on the Complementary Unbound base.

Which Minecraft version does Allium support?

The current release build, v2.1.2, covers Minecraft versions up to 1.21.11 on Iris. The creator has said support for the newer 26.x releases and Vulkan is planned but not a current priority, since development time is going toward Serie first.

Does Allium work with OptiFine?

No confirmed OptiFine build exists. Allium is published as an Iris-only shader pack on Modrinth, so it needs the Iris mod rather than OptiFine to run.

Is Allium Shaders free to download?

Yes. Allium is a free download from its official Modrinth page, with no separate paid tier for the shader itself.
