Bloop Shaders is a semi-realistic shader pack for Minecraft Java, built for the Iris and OptiFine loaders. It scales across a wide hardware range, from a Lowest preset aimed at integrated graphics up to an Ultra preset for high-end discrete GPUs, layering colored lighting, bloom, and water reflections onto the vanilla look. Coverage runs from Minecraft 1.16 through the current 26.1 releases, with the newest build following Iris only.

Installation

  1. 1.Install Iris or OptiFine for your Minecraft Java version first.
  2. 2.Download the Bloop Shaders zip from the Modrinth page. Do not unzip it.
  3. 3.Open the shaderpacks folder from the in-game shader menu, or .minecraft/shaderpacks directly, and drop the zip in.
  4. 4.Open Video Settings, then Shaders, and select Bloop Shaders from the list.
  5. 5.Pick a preset that matches your hardware, from Lowest up to Ultra.

Visual style and atmosphere

Bloop's semi-realistic look leans on floodfill lighting for colored light bleed, full LabPBR support for parallax occlusion mapping and material-based reflections, and volumetric light and mist for atmospheric fog. Bloom, depth of field, and custom tonemapping round out the picture, and foliage picks up the same colored lighting and shadow treatment as terrain and builds. The gallery leans fantasy in places, with glowing lanterns and pastel banners on custom builds, but the shader itself is a general-purpose semi-realistic pack rather than a stylized reshade.

Performance presets and hardware

Bloop ships seven presets, Lowest through Ultra with Med Low and Med High steps between, so it scales from integrated graphics up to a high-end discrete GPU. MakeUp - Ultra Fast is the pack espen96 benchmarks Bloop against in the project's own performance table, run on a Ryzen 9 7900X's integrated graphics at 1080p with a render distance of 8. In that test, Lowest held 45 fps and Ultra dropped to about 5 fps, so the top preset reads as a screenshot setting rather than something to play on unless you have real GPU headroom. Distant Horizons is supported, including shadows on the extended terrain, and Physics Mod is compatible too.

Compatibility with Iris and OptiFine

Bloop runs on Iris or OptiFine, both client-side only, with no server component to install. Builds up through 1.8.0-Alpha2 ship for both loaders and reach Minecraft 1.21.11. The newest release, 1.8.0-Alpha3, drops the OptiFine build and lists Iris only, extending coverage to the 26.1.x releases. OptiFine users should stay on 1.8.0-Alpha2 until a newer OptiFine build appears.

How to download and install Bloop Shaders for Minecraft Java

Questions about Bloop Shaders.

5 questions

How do I install Bloop Shaders?

Install Iris or OptiFine for your Minecraft Java version first, then download the Bloop Shaders zip from Modrinth and drop it, unopened, into the shaderpacks folder inside .minecraft. Open the in-game shader menu, select Bloop Shaders, and pick a preset that matches your hardware, from Lowest to Ultra.

Does Bloop Shaders work with OptiFine?

Mostly, but check the build. Versions up through 1.8.0-Alpha2 ship for both Iris and OptiFine and reach Minecraft 1.21.11. The newest 1.8.0-Alpha3 build only lists Iris as a supported loader, so OptiFine users should stay on Alpha2 until a newer OptiFine build lands.

Which Minecraft version does Bloop Shaders support?

The Iris build covers everything from 1.16 up through the current 26.1.2 release. The OptiFine build stops one release earlier, at 1.21.11, since its most recent upload predates the switch to 26.1 versioning.

Is Bloop Shaders good for low-end PCs?

Yes, that is its main selling point. The Lowest and Low presets target potato-tier hardware, and the creator's own benchmark table shows them running well on integrated graphics. The higher presets are a different story: Ultra dropped to about 5 fps in that same test, so treat it as a screenshot setting rather than a daily driver unless you have a capable discrete GPU.

Does Bloop Shaders work with Distant Horizons?

Yes. The project lists Distant Horizons support, including shadows on the extended terrain, plus compatibility with Physics Mod for anyone running that alongside it.
