Ebin Resurrected is a vibrant, semi-realistic shader pack for Minecraft Java built on multicoloured block lighting, PCSS soft shadows, and a full LabPBR pipeline. It runs on Iris or OptiFine, carries a low performance tier, and the current build reaches Minecraft 1.21.5 on both loaders.
What Ebin Resurrected changes in Minecraft
- Multicoloured block light instead of vanilla's flat orange glow
- PCSS variable penumbra sunlight shadows, including shadows through transparent blocks
- Bloom and glow around bright light sources
- Procedural 2D and 3D clouds, plus procedural water waves
- A deferred shading pipeline, so lighting stays correct behind semi-transparent blocks
- Optional terrain deformation, with "Animal Crossing" and "Acid" styles
- LabPBR support: rough screen space reflections, normal-mapped lighting, parallax occlusion mapping, material ambient occlusion, hardcoded metal support, and rain porosity
A revival of the original Ebin shader
BruceKnowsHow built the original Ebin shader from 2016 to 2020, aiming for a fast, configurable, feature-rich pack with clean code. It never made the jump to modern Minecraft and was missing features by the time it stopped. jbritain resumed development in 2024 under the name Ebin Resurrected, with BruceKnowsHow's written permission to distribute the fork, rebuilding it for current Iris and OptiFine releases and substantially improving its PBR support. jbritain has since built two more packs, Glimmer Shaders and Visual Vibrance.
Installing Ebin Resurrected with Iris or OptiFine
- 1.Install Iris or OptiFine for your Minecraft version first; Ebin Resurrected needs one of them to run.
- 2.Download the Ebin Resurrected zip from its Modrinth page. Do not unzip it.
- 3.Open Options, then Video Settings, then Shaderpacks (or the Iris menu), and click Open Shaderpacks Folder.
- 4.Drop the zip into that folder and select Ebin Resurrected from the in-game list.
Supported versions and hardware
- Minecraft 1.17.1 is the earliest tested version; older versions may work but are not guaranteed.
- Build 1.5.6, the current release, reaches 1.21.5 on both Iris and OptiFine.
- OpenGL 4 hardware is required: Nvidia GeForce 400 series, AMD Radeon HD 5000 series, or Intel HD Graphics 3rd generation and later.
- Raspberry Pi hardware is not supported, since it lacks OpenGL 4.
Known issues
A compute shader bug that stopped the shader loading correctly in the Nether and End was fixed in the source repository the same day build 1.5.6 shipped, so current downloads should no longer see the End dimension fail to render. Two other bugs remain open on the project's issue tracker: glass and sand blocks can randomly start glowing while moving around the world, and the sky can show mild color banding since the pack does not yet dither its output. Distant Horizons support and a dedicated End skybox are both listed as planned but unshipped.
Questions about Ebin Resurrected.
5 questions
Does Ebin Resurrected work with Iris and OptiFine?
Yes, on both loaders. Some effects, though, only work on Iris and stay off on OptiFine. Ebin Resurrected is developed against the latest Iris and OptiFine releases, so an older install of either loader can show bugs that the current shader build does not have on a fresh one.
Which Minecraft version does Ebin Resurrected support?
Build 1.5.6, the current release, reaches Minecraft 1.21.5 on both Iris and OptiFine, since both loaders share the same version ceiling. The creator lists 1.17.1 as the earliest tested version. Older releases may still load the shader, but the project does not test or guarantee them.
Does Ebin Resurrected work in the End dimension?
It used to fail to load there for some players, leaving the End dimension unshaded. A compute shader fix for the Nether and End dimensions merged into the source repository the same day build 1.5.6 shipped, so a current download of Ebin Resurrected should no longer hit this problem.
Is Ebin Resurrected the same shader as the original Ebin?
It is a continuation, not the same project. BruceKnowsHow built the original Ebin shader from 2016 to 2020, then stopped maintaining it. jbritain resumed development in 2024 with BruceKnowsHow's written permission, rebuilding Ebin Resurrected for current Minecraft and substantially expanding its PBR support along the way.
Does Ebin Resurrected support Distant Horizons?
Not yet. Distant Horizons support is listed as a planned feature on the project's Modrinth page, alongside a dedicated End dimension skybox, but neither has shipped in the current build. Players who rely on Distant Horizons for extended render distance should expect no interaction with the shader for now.
