Kute is a lightweight shader pack for Java that gives the world a soft, dreamy, fantasy look. It runs on Iris and OptiFine. OmqItzJames8 made it as an edit of the Mellow shader, aimed at players who want a cozy storybook atmosphere without a heavy frame-rate cost.

Shader loaders and versions

  • Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3.

Look and effects

The style sits between vanilla and fantasy. Colours are slightly enhanced and softened rather than pushed toward realism, so terrain stays recognisable while forests and flowers gain a little pop.

  • Pastel glows at sunrise, sunset and in ambient light.
  • Twinkling stars, subtle moonlight reflections and soft shadowing at night.
  • Rivers, lakes and oceans with soft shimmering reflections.
  • Smooth shadows and bloom around torches, lanterns and enchanted blocks.
  • Slightly enhanced, fantasy-leaning colours across biomes.

Performance and trade-offs

The pack is described as easy on performance and light enough for lower-end PCs. No preset list or benchmark figures are published, so treat that as the author's positioning, not a measured result.

Installation

  1. 1.Install Iris (on Fabric or NeoForge) or OptiFine. The shader install guide covers both.
  2. 2.Place the Kute .zip in the shaderpacks folder without unzipping it.
  3. 3.Open Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and select Kute.

If the pack does not appear or the screen turns black, the shader troubleshooting guide lists the usual causes. Bedrock cannot run Iris or OptiFine, so this pack is Java only.

Questions about Kute.

4 questions

How do I install Kute shaders?

Install Iris or OptiFine first, then put the Kute .zip into the shaderpacks folder. Launch Java, open Video Settings, choose Shader Packs, and select Kute. Keep the file zipped. The newest build lists no required dependencies beyond the shader loader.

Does Kute work with both Iris and OptiFine?

Yes. The newest build is listed for both Iris and OptiFine and requires nothing else. Pick whichever loader you already use. Iris runs on Fabric or NeoForge, while OptiFine is a separate mod with its own shader menu.

Is Kute good for low-end PCs?

The author describes Kute as lightweight and easy on performance, built to run smoothly on lower-end PCs. No benchmark numbers are published, so actual frame rates depend on your hardware and settings. It is a soft, fantasy-style pack, not a heavy realistic one.

Does Kute work on Bedrock?

No. Kute is a Java shader pack that needs Iris or OptiFine, and neither loader runs on Bedrock. Bedrock uses a different format for visual packs, so this file will not load there.
