Sildur's Basic Shaders is a lightweight, vanilla-like shader pack for Minecraft Java Edition, running on Iris and OptiFine. The line began around 2013, and this reworked return is ported from Enhanced Default. It aims for speed and a long list of switches rather than a heavy realistic overhaul.

Shader loaders and versions

  • Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.7.10 to 26.3.

Effects and presets

The option list is wide for a pack this light. It covers TAA antialiasing with sharpening, SSAO ambient occlusion, cel shading, colour boost, a crossprocess colour filter, custom emissive lightmaps, a custom sun and moon angle, tonemapping, depth of field, motion blur, and bump and parallax mapping.

Five presets sit in the in-game options, so you can pick a starting point before tuning anything.

  • Fast+MB
  • Fast+DoF
  • Fancy

Installing with Iris or OptiFine

The pack is a single .zip. Iris users can set up Iris with Sodium through the Iris setup tool, then load the pack from the shader menu.

  1. 1.Set up Iris (choose the Iris and Sodium option) or OptiFine, then start the matching launcher profile.
  2. 2.Open Options, then Video Settings, then Shader Packs (Shaders in OptiFine).
  3. 3.Click the shader folder button and drop the Sildur's Basic Shaders .zip inside.
  4. 4.Select the pack from the in-game list and pick a preset.

Compatibility and trade-offs

The pack supports Distant Horizons and Voxy. Bedrock Edition cannot run Iris or OptiFine, so this pack is Java only.

Questions about Sildur's Basic Shaders.

5 questions

Where can I find Sildur's Basic Shaders?

The pack is published by Sildur on CurseForge, and that page is the one to use for downloads. Put the .zip in your shaderpacks folder, then select it in the Iris or OptiFine shader menu. Avoid reuploads, because the creator forbids redistributing the pack under another name.

Does Sildur's Basic Shaders work with Iris and OptiFine?

Yes. The pack lists both Iris and OptiFine as supported loaders, and the newest files for each require no extra dependency. Install your chosen loader, open its shader menu, and select the .zip from the list.

Does Sildur's Basic Shaders work with Distant Horizons?

Yes. The pack lists support for Distant Horizons and Voxy. Install the mod alongside your shader loader, then pick the pack in the shader menu as usual.

Which presets does Sildur's Basic Shaders include?

There are five presets in the in-game options: Very Fast, Fast, Fast+MB, Fast+DoF and Fancy. Pick one as a starting point, then tune the pack's many options, which include TAA, SSAO, depth of field and motion blur, until it suits your hardware and taste.

Can I use Sildur's Basic Shaders on Bedrock Edition?

No. The pack is a Java Edition shader that needs Iris or OptiFine, and neither runs on Bedrock Edition. Bedrock uses a different shader format, so this download will not load there.
