Actual Backpack is a Bedrock addon from Studio38 that adds a wearable, placeable backpack with its own storage. It is a vanilla-friendly utility pack for Bedrock only, and it needs no experimental toggles. A hotbar readout shows how full the pack is.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 26.40 to 26.50.
How the backpack works
Craft the backpack with a cheap recipe, then use it on your back or in hand. Every control is a gesture.
- Drop it on the ground and open it to stash items.
- Sneak and tap while looking down to clip it onto your back.
- Sneak and look straight up to pop it off your back.
- Punch a placed backpack to return it to your inventory.
- Use any dye on it to change its color.
The storage percentage appears in the hotbar display, so you can see how full the pack is at a glance. Achievements stay enabled, and the pack uses no player files.
Installation
Open the file with Bedrock to import it, then switch the packs on per world under Behavior Packs and Resource Packs. The full steps are in how to install add-ons on Bedrock, and fixing add-ons that do not work covers the usual failures.
Trade-offs
Nothing is stated about Realms or dedicated servers, so test those setups before relying on it. For a different take on the same idea, see OTG Backpack.
Actual Backpack Bedrock addon overview
Questions about Actual Backpack.
4 questions
Does Actual Backpack need experimental toggles?
No. The addon is built to run without any Experiments switched on, so you can enable its packs on a normal world. It also keeps achievements available. You only need to activate both the behavior pack and the resource pack in the world's settings.
How do I wear the backpack?
Craft the backpack, then sneak and tap while looking down to clip it onto your back. To take it off, sneak and look straight up. You can also carry it in hand, drop it on the ground to open it, or punch it to pick it up.
Can I change the color of the backpack?
Yes. Using any dye on the backpack instantly swaps its color, so you can match it to your personal style. Dyeing is one of the listed controls alongside wearing, holding and placing the pack. Both the behavior pack and the resource pack must be active for the addon to work.
Can I use Actual Backpack on Java Edition?
No. Actual Backpack is a Bedrock Edition project, and Java Edition uses a different format. Add-ons are Bedrock Edition only, so Java cannot load the behavior pack or the resource pack. The addon is meant for Bedrock worlds, where both packs are switched on in the world settings.
