Dynamic Light Addon + Offhand Torch

CaveCraft's add-on gives Bedrock the held-item lighting Java players know from OptiFine. Torches, lanterns and dozens of other items light up the area around you, with an optional offhand torch.

Player character holding a torch or light-emitting item in first-person view with Dynamic Light Addon.

Dynamic Light Addon is a dynamic lighting addon for Bedrock that makes light-emitting items shine while you hold them, the way Java players get it from OptiFine. CaveCraft built it as a single .mcaddon file, and it runs on Bedrock only, as every add-on does. It also moves torches into your offhand.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.18 to 26.50.

What it lights up

Hold a light source and the world around you brightens. Cave exploration feels more natural, and you stop placing torches every few blocks. The list is broad, covering 40 items in all. A sample:

  • Torches of every kind, including soul, redstone and copper torches
  • Lanterns, soul lanterns and copper lanterns
  • Campfire, lava bucket, glowstone, sea lantern and shroomlight
  • Beacon, end rod, end crystal and enchanting table
  • Nether star, blaze rod, glow berries and glow ink sac

Offhand torch modes

In automatic mode, a torch held in your first hand moves to your second hand on its own. In manual mode, you run `/function handtorch` to move it, and a torch must be in your inventory. Only torches and lanterns can be moved to the offhand. The page labels the add-on as friendly to achievements.

Installation

  1. 1.Open DynamicLightAddon.mcaddon with Bedrock so it imports (double-click on Windows, open with Minecraft on phones and tablets).
  2. 2.Create a world or edit an existing one, then switch the add-on on in the world's settings, under Behavior Packs or Resource Packs.
  3. 3.Hold a torch and check that it lights the area around you.

Which Bedrock releases does Dynamic Light Addon support?

The add-on covers Bedrock 1.18 to 26.50 in a single file, DynamicLightAddon.mcaddon, last updated in September 2026. It is Bedrock only, because Java Edition cannot load add-ons.
