Gravestones is a Bedrock addon by Effect99 that replaces the scramble for dropped items with a grave. When a player dies, a gravestone appears at the spot and keeps the whole inventory. A key tells you where to go. It suits survival and multiplayer worlds, and it is Bedrock only.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 1.21.50 to 26.0.
How the graves work
- On death you receive a key. Hold it to see the coordinates and the distance in blocks to your grave.
- Interact with the grave while holding the matching key to get your entire inventory back.
- Each key is unique and fits only its own gravestone. Lose it and you can craft another.
- Only the grave's owner can open it, even if another player holds the right key.
- Administrators with the admin tag, or holding the admin key, can open any grave.
- Eight grave designs appear depending on your XP level at death, some inspired by Terraria.
Edge cases are handled. If you fall into the void in the End, the grave is placed at height 1 with a few blocks around it so you can reach it. If two players die on the same spot, the second grave goes next to the first.
Installation
Get the .mcaddon file from CurseForge and open it with Bedrock so it imports. It contains a behavior pack and a resource pack, and you must switch on both in the world's settings. The install guide covers the steps on each platform, and the troubleshooting guide helps if the packs do not show up.
Trade-offs
Both packs are required, and the KeepInventory rule changes how death feels in your world. The keys are tied to a single grave, so a player who loses one has to craft a replacement before retrieving anything.
Questions about Gravestones.
4 questions
Why is the Gravestones addon not working for me?
Check that both the behavior pack and the resource pack are active in the world's settings, since the addon needs both. Then confirm the KeepInventory rule is enabled, because the addon requires it to function correctly. Also make sure the world runs on a supported Bedrock release.
How do I find my grave after dying?
You receive a key when you die. Hold it in your hand and it shows the coordinates of your death and the distance in blocks. Walk to the grave and interact with it while holding that key to get your whole inventory back.
Can other players open my gravestone?
No. Only the owner can open a gravestone, even when another player holds the matching key. The exception is administrators, who can open any grave with the admin tag or the admin key.
What happens if I lose my grave key?
You can craft another key. Each key is unique to one gravestone and works only with that grave, so the replacement still points to your own grave and no one else's.
