Novelty API

A small behavior pack that gives the player 24 extra equipment slots, from hats to trinkets. It ships no accessory items, so other addons fill the slots.

Novelty API is a small Bedrock behavior pack that adds extra equipment slots to the player. It targets Bedrock Edition only and runs as a pack on the world, with no dependency packs. The slots are infrastructure: other addons supply the items that go in them.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.21.20 to 26.3.

What it adds

The pack adds 24 equipment slots to the player. Nothing else is included, because the pack contains no accessory items of its own.

  • Hat, face, necklace, belt, back and spellbook, one slot each
  • Two bracelets, two hands, two feet and two charms
  • Ten trinket slots

Making items fit the slots

Addon authors have two routes. The first is tags: add one of the novelty tags, such as novelty:is_hat, novelty:is_belt or novelty:is_trinket, to a custom item through minecraft:tags. A player wearing the item then carries the tag novelty:<item identifier>, so commands can react with a tag selector, for example to apply an effect.

The second route is scripting. Place the NoveltyManager.js library at scripts/public_lib/ inside your script behavior pack. It registers new slots, slot groups and items, including vanilla ones such as a bucket. It also reads and replaces slot contents, so scripts can check dynamic properties and durability.

Installation

  1. 1.Open the pack file with Minecraft so it imports. The add-on install guide covers each platform.
  2. 2.Open the world settings and switch the pack on under Behavior Packs.
  3. 3.Add the addon whose items are tagged or registered for these slots.

Questions about Novelty API.

3 questions

What does Novelty API add to Bedrock?

It adds 24 extra equipment slots to the player, covering hat, face, necklace, belt, back, spellbook, bracelets, hands, feet, charms and ten trinkets. It adds no accessory items itself. Its purpose is to give other addons a shared set of slots to use.

How do I make my own item fit a Novelty slot?

Add a matching tag to the item, such as novelty:is_hat or novelty:is_trinket, through the minecraft:tags component. For vanilla items or deeper control, use the NoveltyManager scripting library, which can register slots and items and read or replace what a player has equipped.

Does Novelty API come with accessories to wear?

No. The pack deliberately ships no accessory items. It is meant to be used by other addons, so you need a separate addon that tags or registers its items for these slots before anything shows up in them.
