Published Updated Checked

Minecraft 26.3, the Wilderness Bound drop, was released for Java Edition on 15 September 2026. Bedrock Edition carries the same drop as 26.50, also dated 15 September 2026. For modded players, the first facts are that 26.3 runs on Java 25 and that Forge has not marked a recommended build yet, while Fabric and Quilt list 26.3 as stable. Facts here were read on 2 October 2026 from Mojang's feeds and each loader's own feed. Nothing was played or tested.

The newest Bedrock changelog article is the 26.52 Hotfix Changelog, created on 25 September 2026. Hotfixes reach each platform as its store approves them, so not every device has the newest one on the same day. To move either edition forward, see how to update Minecraft on Java and Bedrock.

What changed

  • Added the Dappled Forest biome, with Poplar trees, fallen Poplar trees and a full Poplar wood set.
  • Added Abandoned Camp structures and new Explorer Maps.
  • Added Cushions and Straw Beds.
  • Added Wool Stairs and Wool Slabs for all Wool blocks, and Concrete Stairs and Concrete Slabs for all Concrete blocks.
  • Suspicious Stew and Mushroom Stew can now be crafted with 2 of any mushroom.
  • Replaced the "Improved Transparency" approach with a new order-independent transparency algorithm, with a rebindable F3 + X toggle.
  • Realms owners can create and manage Invite Codes.
  • Spectator mode players can use portals to teleport, and Gothic language support was added.

Mojang's Java Edition 26.3 notes hold the rest, including the full bug fix list.

What it changes for mods, shaders, packs and servers

Java Edition: 26.3 runs on Java 25, so a machine on an older runtime needs a Java update. The data pack version is now 121.0 and the resource pack version is now 97.1. The notes list data pack changes across versions 108.0 through 121.0, including data-driven pottery sherds and potion recipes, and split number provider registries for integers and floats. Snapshot 7 also carried a developer's note that changes to density function floating point rounding may affect data packs that relied on it.

Shaders, Java Edition: `terrain.vsh` and `terrain.fsh` were refactored to support multi-draw, terrain blocks now render with MultiDrawIndirect on supported devices, and some members of `Globals` and `DynamicTransforms` were shuffled to use less memory. New shader files support order-independent transparency, among them `core/oit_composite.fsh` and `include/oit.glsl`. Mojang's developer's note calls overriding core shaders unsupported and says they may change at any time. Anything that replaces them is the part most exposed to this release. If a pack misbehaves, see fixing shaders that do not work.

Servers, Java Edition: the `white-list` property is now `true` by default, which matters for new servers and is covered in whitelisting a server. Some log lines that server software might watch for were removed, and Mojang points to the Minecraft Server Management Protocol, now at 3.1.0, as the replacement. It adds notifications for world upgrades on startup, from `upgrade_started` to `upgrade_failed`. Data packs on a server follow the data pack server guide.

Loader status

No NeoForge status was read, so none is given here. A listed build is not proof that a loader works, and nothing was tested. Setup steps are in the guides for Fabric and for Forge and NeoForge.

The 26.3 counts are lower than the 26.2 counts for every loader. A listed build is not proof a mod works, and CurseForge is not counted.

What has not been announced

As of 2 October 2026, Forge has not marked a recommended build for 26.3. The newest Java test build is 26.4-snapshot-2, dated 29 September 2026. It is a snapshot, not a release.
