The latest Minecraft version is Java Edition 26.3, released on 15 September 2026, and Bedrock Edition 26.50, with a 26.52 hotfix changelog published on 25 September 2026. Java and Bedrock are separate games with separate numbers.

We read these facts on 2 October 2026 from Mojang's own feeds and changelog pages. We did not play either edition. Both releases carry the Wilderness Bound content, which Mojang's notes describe as a dappled forest biome with poplar trees and abandoned camps. Java 26.3 also moves the Data Pack version to 121.0 and the Resource Pack version to 97.1, and it runs on Java 25 (see how to update Java).
The trade-off for modders is a thinner catalogue. On Modrinth, read 2 October 2026, 6052 mods list a Fabric build for 26.3, against 12386 for 26.2. Fabric and Quilt list 26.3 as stable. NeoForge's newest 26.3 build is 26.3.0.42-beta, and every one so far carries its beta label. Forge's latest is 66.0.9, with no promoted build for 26.3. A listed build is not proof a mod works. Why Java and Bedrock have different version numbers
The same Wilderness Bound content is 26.3 on Java and 26.50 on Bedrock. Bedrock also ships many small steps, with changelogs for 26.40 on 31 July 2026, 26.41 to 26.43 on 10 August, 26.44 and 26.45 on 14 August, then 26.50 and 26.51 in September. For the wider differences between the two, read Minecraft Java vs Bedrock Edition.
How the year.drop numbering differs from 1.21.x
Java releases through December 2025 used the 1.21.x pattern. The list reads 1.21.9 (30 September 2025), 1.21.10 (7 October 2025) and 1.21.11 (9 December 2025). The next release, 26.1 on 24 March 2026, starts a new pattern, followed by 26.1.1 (1 April), 26.1.2 (9 April), 26.2 (16 June) and 26.3 (15 September). Java is written "26.3", never "1.26.3".
Our sources do not spell out Mojang's rule for the second number, so we describe only the pattern in the release list.
Snapshots, pre-releases, previews and hotfixes
- Snapshot. A Java test build of a coming release, never a release itself. The newest is 26.4-snapshot-2, dated 29 September 2026.
- Pre-release. A late test build before a full release. Mojang's 26.3 Pre-Release 3 notice says the team was tackling a batch of bug fixes ahead of the full release. Pre-releases appear in the launcher once snapshots are enabled in the Installations tab.
- Preview. Our sources do not describe Bedrock previews, so we define nothing here beyond that they are not releases.
- Hotfix. A small bug-fix release. Bedrock hotfixes reach each platform as its store approves them, so the newest one is not on every device on the same day.
Updating or changing your version
