All Mob Heads is a server-side Minecraft data pack that lets nearly every mob drop its own head when it dies, so a normal survival world becomes a long collecting hunt. It covers the creatures the base game skips, from axolotls and camels to the copper golem and creaking, and it tracks your progress through a built-in set of advancements. The pack runs on Minecraft Java 1.20.2 through the 1.21 release line.

What changes in-game

The pack rewrites loot so almost any mob you kill has a chance to leave its head behind. It keeps a few vanilla rules intact and adds several heads you cannot get in the base game at all.

  • Almost every mob can now drop its head on death, including passive animals and rare mobs the base game never covers.
  • Zombie, skeleton, and creeper heads keep their vanilla rule: you still need a charged creeper explosion next to the mob to collect them.
  • Some mobs carry more than one head to find. The Wither drops four different heads, and the Ghast, Vex, and Strider each drop two.
  • Baby animals, colored shulkers, colored slimes, and biome nitwit villagers all have their own separate heads.
  • An advancement tab works as a checklist and trophy set for completing the full collection.

How to install All Mob Heads

  1. 1.Download the version from the Modrinth project page that matches your Minecraft version.
  2. 2.For a single world, open your saves folder, enter the world folder, and drop the .zip into its datapacks folder.
  3. 3.Load or reload the world, then run /reload or /datapack list to confirm the pack is active.
  4. 4.For a server, place the .zip in the world/datapacks folder and run /reload from the console or an operator account.

Renaming tricks and hidden variants

Several heads are tied to renaming a mob with a name tag before you kill it, and a few unlock mobs that never spawn naturally in survival.

  • Rename a shulker with a color word to get that colored shulker head. All 16 dye colors work.
  • Rename a slime with a color word to collect a matching colored slime head.
  • Rename an unemployed villager "nitwit" to get the nitwit head, which changes with the biome.
  • Rename a vindicator "illusioner" to summon an illusioner and claim its head.
  • Rename a white rabbit "killer" to spawn the Killer Bunny.
  • Rename a skeleton horse "zombie" to turn it into a zombie horse (this trick does not work in 1.21.11).

Multiplayer and server use

Because the pack works through loot tables and functions, it installs once on the world or server rather than on each player. Every connected player sees the new head drops as soon as the pack is loaded, which makes it a good fit for survival multiplayer and small SMP worlds where a shared collection race adds a goal.

Questions about this entry.

  • How do I install All Mob Heads?

Download the file that matches your Minecraft version from the Modrinth page. For single player, drop the .zip into the datapacks folder inside your world save, then reload the world. On a server, place it in world/datapacks and run /reload from the console or an operator account.

  • Does All Mob Heads need a resource pack?

No. The pack reuses the vanilla player-head model for every mob head, so it works on its own with no companion resource pack. You only need the data pack itself installed on the world or server to start collecting heads.

  • Does All Mob Heads work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. Install it once in the world/datapacks folder and run /reload, and every connected player will see the new head drops. Because it is server-side, players do not need to install anything on their own clients to take part in the collection.

  • Which Minecraft version does All Mob Heads support?

It supports the Java Edition 1.20.2 through 1.21 release line, with files published for each version. Always download the build that matches your world so the loot tables and pack format line up correctly with your Minecraft version.

  • How do I get the zombie, skeleton, and creeper heads?

Those three keep the normal vanilla rule and are not changed by the pack. Lure a charged creeper next to the mob you want, then let it explode near the zombie, skeleton, or creeper. The blast is what causes those specific heads to drop.
