Arboria: Biome Enhancement

A worldgen data pack that reworks most vanilla overworld biomes with better-looking trees, ponds, boulders and tiny ocean islands, while leaving biome layout and terrain shape alone.

What Arboria: Biome Enhancement works with.

PlatformJava Edition
Minecraft versions1.19, 1.19.4, 1.20.6, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2

Arboria is a worldgen data pack for Java that overhauls most vanilla overworld biomes, with the heaviest focus on trees. The goal is a better-looking world without bending progression. It must be installed on the server, while players joining do not need it.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.19 to 26.2.

What Arboria adds

  • Better looking trees
  • Lakes and ponds in most biomes
  • Occasional boulders and rocks
  • More ground variation, such as coarse dirt mixed with grass
  • Tiny islands in oceans
  • Many biome-specific features

Everything structural stays vanilla. Tree type distribution, flower and plant distribution, biome layout and terrain shape are unchanged, so acacia still belongs to savanna and blue orchids to swamps. Grass, water and sky colours are untouched.

How to install Arboria

  1. 1.Get the .zip from the Modrinth page.
  2. 2.Put it in saves/<world>/datapacks, or add it from the Data Packs button when creating a world.
  3. 3.In an existing world, run /reload or restart so the pack loads.
  4. 4.On a dedicated server, place it in the server world's datapacks folder.

If the pack does not appear in the list, the guide on fixing data packs that do not show covers the usual causes.

Compatibility and trade-offs

Arboria conflicts with any mod or data pack that modifies overworld surface biomes. Packs that change the nether, the end or cave biomes are fine. It also works with packs and mods that add new biomes beside the vanilla ones, such as Terralith, BYG and WWOO, as long as Arboria sits higher in load priority, above Terralith or WWOO in the pack list.

The trade-off is visual. These biomes were not designed to sit beside other worldgen packs, so they may look out of place against surrounding terrain.

Questions about Arboria: Biome Enhancement.

4 questions

How do I install the Arboria data pack?

Place the .zip in saves/<world>/datapacks, or add it from the Data Packs button while creating a world. An existing world picks it up after /reload or a restart. On a dedicated server, put it in the server world's datapacks folder instead.

Does Arboria work with Terralith?

Yes. Arboria works with packs and mods that add biomes beside vanilla ones, including Terralith, BYG and WWOO. Give Arboria the higher load priority by placing it above Terralith in the pack list. The biomes may still look out of place next to them.

Does Arboria work on Realms?

No. Arboria does not work on Realms. It is meant for single-player worlds and servers you control, where the pack can be placed in the world's datapacks folder. Players joining a server do not need it installed themselves.

Will Arboria change my existing world?

Only partly. Data packs that change world generation affect newly generated chunks, so terrain you have already explored stays as it was. Travel to unexplored areas to see the reworked trees, ponds and boulders.
