The Lone Citadel megastructure added by the Dungeons and Taverns data pack

Dungeons and Taverns is a structure data pack that scatters dozens of new buildings across the Overworld, Nether, and End. You will run into roadside taverns with map-selling traders, illager manors, piglin donjons, end ships, swamp witch villas, and underground dungeons packed with trial spawners and vaults. It runs on vanilla Minecraft from 1.19 through the current 26.2 release with no mods required, and matching Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge builds exist if you prefer a mod install.

What changes in-game

The pack focuses on exploration and loot progression rather than new blocks or items. Most structures gate their top rewards behind trial spawners, vaults, and ominous vaults, and several point you toward the next location through treasure maps and charts found inside.

  • Overworld: taverns, illager manors and camps, ruined towns, jungle and swamp villages, wells, and surface ruins.
  • Underground: trial dungeons, catacombs, undead crypts, creeping crypts, and cave chambers that blend into natural cave generation.
  • Nether: nether keeps, nether ports, skeleton towers, piglin hamlets, and the rare Piglin Donjon and Sealing Halls megastructures.
  • End: end lighthouses, end ships hiding elytra vaults, and end castles reached with eyes of ender or castle maps.

How to install Dungeons and Taverns

New to adding data packs or mods in Minecraft? The Minecraft mods and data packs folder guide covers the right folder for Windows, Mac, and Linux before you start.

  1. 1.Download the data pack ZIP for your Minecraft version from the Modrinth project page.
  2. 2.For a single-player world, create or open a world, then drop the ZIP into the world's datapacks folder (saves/<world>/datapacks).
  3. 3.For a dedicated server, place the ZIP in world/datapacks and run /reload or restart the server.
  4. 4.Confirm it loaded with /datapack list, then explore newly generated chunks to find structures. If it does not show up, see fixing data packs that will not show up in Minecraft Java.

Single-player and multiplayer use

Dungeons and Taverns is server-side, so it works on dedicated servers and Realms-style setups without every player installing anything. Only the world host or server needs the pack. New structures generate only in chunks created after the pack is added, so the cleanest results come from a fresh world or from exploring outward into unloaded terrain.

Loader and version notes

  • Distributed as a vanilla data pack and as Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge builds; pick whichever matches your setup.
  • Supports Minecraft 1.19 through the current 26.x releases; the latest 5.3.0 build targets 26.2 on NeoForge, while earlier Java versions each get their own separate download on the project page.
  • It is a structure datapack, not a resource pack: no companion resource pack is required. An optional one exists only for custom key textures, and the Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge mod builds already include it automatically.
  • Pairs well with worldgen packs like Terralith and other structure packs such as Structory, When Dungeons Arise, Towns and Towers, and Philip's Ruins. For a reworked Nether alongside this pack's Piglin and Nether structures, it also pairs with Incendium. Heavy structure overlap between packs can crowd terrain.

Every major Dungeons and Taverns structure

  • Taverns: roadside stops with a villager you can promote to a cartographer for maps and charts to other structures.
  • Illager Manor, Illager Hideout, and Illager Camp: a dark oak or spruce Illager stronghold, an underground Illager dungeon, and a small camp holding a chart to a pillager outpost.
  • Piglin Donjon: a Nether megastructure in crimson forest biomes built from bastion-remnant rooms, gold-filled crates, and hidden vault rooms.
  • Piglin Hamlets: a Piglin village with an underground apartment complex and magma slime trial spawners guarding charts to Piglin Outstations.
  • Sealing Halls: the rarest Nether structure in the pack, the Nether Skeletons' answer to the Piglin Donjon.
  • Lone Citadel: the pack's largest structure, a vanilla recreation of the Lone Fortress from Minecraft Dungeons, reached with a chart from a Stray Fort.
  • Undead Crypts and Catacombs: underground bone-and-skull dungeons, with Catacombs generating deep under cold biomes.
  • Toxic Lair and Witch Villa: a swamp-biome dungeon with a miniboss and trial spawners, and a witch's own woodland-mansion-style build.
  • End Castle and End Ships: the End's Stronghold-and-End-City hybrid reached with an End Castle map or Eyes of Ender, and lone ships hiding an Elytra vault.
  • Nether Keep: a Nether tower with three blaze spawner rooms and a vault reachable through trial-spawner arenas.

Questions about Dungeons and Taverns.

6 questions

How do I install Dungeons and Taverns?

Download the data pack ZIP for your Minecraft version from Modrinth. For single-player, place it in your world's datapacks folder (saves/<world>/datapacks). On a server, drop it into world/datapacks and run /reload or restart. Use /datapack list to confirm it loaded, then explore new chunks to find the structures.

Does Dungeons and Taverns work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. The pack is server-side, so only the server or world host needs it installed and connected players do not have to add anything. Install the ZIP in world/datapacks, then reload or restart. Structures appear in chunks generated after the pack is active, so newly explored areas show the most.

Which Minecraft version does Dungeons and Taverns support?

It covers Java Edition 1.19 through the current 26.x releases, with the newest 5.3.0 build targeting Minecraft 26.2 on NeoForge. Earlier Minecraft versions each have their own separate download on the Modrinth project page, so grab the file that matches your exact version, since structure data packs are tied to each release's world generation format.

Is Dungeons and Taverns a mod or a datapack?

Both: the base release is a vanilla structure datapack that needs no mod loader, and separate Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge mod builds are also available if you would rather install it alongside other mods. Every form adds the same structures. The mod builds also bundle the optional custom key-texture resource pack automatically, while the datapack version can add that separately.

Is Dungeons and Taverns a resource pack?

No. Dungeons and Taverns is a structure datapack, not a resource pack, and it adds new buildings and dungeons rather than new textures. Matching Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge mod builds are available too. An optional companion resource pack exists only to add custom key icons, and the mod builds already include it automatically, so most players never need to install it separately.

Will Dungeons and Taverns affect my existing world?

Your existing builds and explored areas stay intact, but new structures only generate in chunks created after you add the pack. To see them you need to travel into fresh, never-loaded terrain or start a new world. Removing the pack stops new structures from generating while leaving already-built ones in place.
