Cursed Walking is a cursed walking modpack for Java on Forge, curated around exploration, progression and surviving a zombie threat that never stops growing. It plays in single player or on a multiplayer host. The cost is memory, since this pack is RAM demanding.
Loaders and versions
- Forge: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 1.20.1.
What you are up against
Zombies spawn day and night, climb over each other, gather into hordes that attack every ten days, and can infect you. Phases bring tougher types such as runners and brutes as the days pass.
- Weapons: many guns from the Timeless and Classic mod and two addons, armour from Marbled's Arsenal, and melee weapons from Melees.
- Structures: cities, bunkers, laboratories and ruins, all stocked with custom loot tables that include guns.
- Endgame: the Depths, reached by following a map to the drill room and jumping through the hole in the bedrock.
- Custom creatures: the Drone and the Feral, two powerful Depths enemies with special attacks.
How to install Cursed Walking
New to pack imports? The guide on installing a modpack from CurseForge or Modrinth covers the launcher side. Then follow these steps.
- 1.Open the Files tab on CurseForge and pick the pack file that matches the Java release you want.
- 2.Before the first launch, allocate at least 4 GB of RAM, preferably 6 GB. Shaders or a higher render distance can need up to 8 GB. Random freezing usually means too little memory.
- 3.In single player, create a new world. Cities are on by default, and enabling them manually can cause chunk generation errors.
- 4.Core resource packs are force-enabled. Optional ones sit under options, then resource packs.
Multiplayer and custom maps
Files for hosting your own world are attached under additional files on each pack file. Sharing a world through e4mc or Essential works but has known issues with large packs, so a dedicated host suits groups of three or more.
Two community maps exist, one for the 1.16.5 pack and a newer one for 1.20.1. They replace the stock cities with handmade ones and custom loot. The 1.20.1 map currently needs its own custom pack. Planned work such as boss encounters is subject to change.

Questions about Cursed Walking - A Modern Zombie Apocalypse.
3 questions
How much RAM does Cursed Walking need?
Allocate at least 4 GB, preferably 6 GB. The pack is RAM demanding, and shaders or a higher render distance can push the need up to 8 GB. Random freezing in play most likely means too little memory is allocated, so raise the allocation in the launcher before blaming the pack itself.
Can I use Optifine with Cursed Walking?
Not on the newer pack files. Optifine should not be added, except on the 1.16.5 pack. Shader and resource pack support is already included by default, so there is nothing extra to install for them. Random freezing most likely means too little RAM, so allocate at least 4 GB, preferably 6 GB.
Are there files for hosting Cursed Walking?
Yes. Files for hosting your own multiplayer world sit under additional files on each pack file in the Files tab. Hosting companies such as Wabbanode also carry them. Sharing a world through e4mc or Essential has known issues with large packs, so hosting suits groups of three or more.
