RLCraft

RLCraft bundles dozens of retuned Forge mods into a brutal survival RPG, adding thirst, temperature, skill-gated gear, and dangerous new mobs. It has not shipped an update since June 2023 and stays fixed on Minecraft Java 1.12.2.

RLCraft turns Minecraft Java Edition into a survival RPG built by creator Shivaxi on Forge for version 1.12.2. Thirst, biome temperature, no natural health regeneration, and a leveling system that locks basic gear behind skill points make it one of the most punishing modpacks on CurseForge, backed by more than 30 million downloads since it launched in 2018.

Minecraft version and loader RLCraft needs

RLCraft runs on Forge and needs Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2. The pack shipped its last release, v2.9.3, on 27 June 2023, and CurseForge's file history shows nothing newer since. The only other version it ever supported was the original 1.11.2 build from 2018, now retired in favor of 1.12.2. If you want a modpack on a current Minecraft release, this is not that pack: RLCraft is a fixed, frozen build of Forge modding from the 1.12.2 era.

What's actually inside RLCraft

RLCraft hand-picks and retunes dozens of Forge mods around one goal: making survival brutally hard. The core systems are thirst and biome-specific heat and cold, the removal of health regeneration from food, and Reskillable, which locks basic actions like farming or using an anvil behind skill levels earned through Level Up! Reloaded's perk tree.

  • Survival pressure: thirst and temperature mechanics, no health regen from food, and torches that must be lit and eventually burn out
  • Progression: Reskillable and Level Up! Reloaded gate gear and abilities behind XP-earned skill levels
  • New threats: Lycanite's Mobs, Ice and Fire dragons, and Infernal Mobs add biome-specific creatures and randomized magical enemies
  • Exploration: Ruins, Recurrent Complex, Doomlike Dungeons, Roguelike Dungeons, and Battle Towers fill the world with structures and loot
  • Quality of life: Waystones for fast travel, Antique Atlas for mapping, and more than 340 optional quests to guide progression

Getting RLCraft

RLCraft is a CurseForge exclusive with no separate mirror or installer site. Its license field on CurseForge is blank, so MinecraftHub links directly to the original project page rather than rehosting the files or treating any third-party rehost as verified.

How to install RLCraft

  1. 1.Install the CurseForge app (the successor to the old Twitch launcher) and search for RLCraft under Modpacks.
  2. 2.Click install, then Play once the download finishes. This is the method Shivaxi recommends for most players.
  3. 3.Allocate at least 3 to 4GB of RAM in the launcher's Java settings; RLCraft's own setup notes call the default 1GB allocation insufficient. See how to allocate more RAM to Minecraft if your launcher hides that option.
  4. 4.For a manual install, you need Forge 1.12.2 build 2860 or newer. See how to install Forge and NeoForge for Minecraft Java for the loader setup, or how to install a Minecraft modpack for the general modpack workflow.
  5. 5.Dedicated servers use the same downloaded files copied onto a server jar. Set enable-command-block=true in server.properties, or some structures will generate without their intended villagers and loot.

Is there an RLCraft for Bedrock

No. Shivaxi's RLCraft is a Java Edition modpack built on Forge, and Forge mods cannot run on Bedrock Edition at all: the two editions use different game engines and completely different file formats, so a Java mod has nothing to load on Bedrock. If you searched for RLCraft Bedrock Edition and found a paid Minecraft Marketplace listing, that product was published by a different account, honeyfrost, and it is not affiliated with Shivaxi or this modpack. It is a separate, paid product, and MinecraftHub does not link to it. For the full difference between the two editions, see Minecraft Java vs Bedrock Edition.

Questions about RLCraft.

5 questions

What Minecraft version and mod loader does RLCraft need?

RLCraft runs on Forge and needs Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2. It shipped v2.9.3 on 27 June 2023 and has not moved to a newer Minecraft version since. A manual install needs Forge 1.12.2 build 2860 or later, which is the version packaged with the last release.

Is RLCraft still being updated? Is there an RLCraft 2.0?

No confirmed new version has shipped since v2.9.3 in June 2023, and CurseForge's file list stops there. Older project notes once mentioned a possible future 2.10, but nothing under that name or an RLCraft 2.0 has been released. Treat the pack as a finished 1.12.2 build.

Is there an RLCraft for Bedrock Edition?

No. RLCraft is a Java Edition Forge modpack, and Java mods cannot run on Bedrock because the two editions use different engines and file formats. A Minecraft Marketplace listing that costs money, called RLCraft Bedrock Edition, exists, but it comes from a different account, honeyfrost, and has nothing to do with Shivaxi's modpack.

How much RAM does RLCraft need?

Shivaxi's own setup notes recommend allocating 3 to 4GB of RAM, since the default 1GB most launchers assign is not enough to run RLCraft's mod list. Set this in your launcher's Java or JVM arguments before the first launch.

Is there a server pack for RLCraft?

Yes. The same download works for a dedicated server; copy the mod files onto a server jar rather than a client install. Server owners need enable-command-block=true set in server.properties, or some structures generate without their villagers and loot.
