World of Dragons is a kitchen-sink modpack for Forge, aimed at players who want to hunt dragons with magic, technology or both. It centres on Ice and Fire and layers Mine and Slash progression on top, with quests, Minecolonies and Create Legacy alongside.

Loaders and versions

  • Forge: Minecraft 1.12.2.

What you do in the pack

The goal is to subdue the dragons. Armour crafted from their carcasses helps, and villages offer a questing shopkeeper and village lords with special needs who pay out rewards. Creatures such as those from Alex's Mobs share the world with them.

  • Dragons from Ice and Fire as the main threat and the source of crafting material.
  • Mine and Slash levelling, which scales your gear, spells and skills.
  • Parallel magic and tech paths, including Blood Magic, CC: Tweaked and Create Legacy.
  • Divergent Underground mining, where diamonds drop in chunks and need refining, and ores toughen with depth or sky exposure.
  • Quests, villages and Minecolonies for settlement play.

Progression and pacing

The further you travel from spawn, the stronger hostile creatures become, and the better the rewards. Experience works like a fantasy MMORPG: you gain the most from monsters close to your level, while much stronger or much weaker foes give less. You are told when a fight is too hard or too easy.

Skipping Mine and Slash levelling is a trade-off, because crafted weapons and spells will not scale. The tech and magic routes are long and intricate, possibly more so than SevTech Ages, and monsters keep growing whichever route you take.

Installation and specs

The modpack installation guide covers the steps. Allocate 6 GB of RAM, which is the recommended amount. OptiFine is not directly supported, so results vary if you add it.

World of Dragons modpack overview

Questions about World of Dragons.

4 questions

How much RAM does World of Dragons need?

The recommended amount is 6 GB. The pack bundles a large number of mods, including Ice and Fire, Mine and Slash and Create Legacy, along with Blood Magic, CC: Tweaked and Minecolonies. OptiFine is not directly supported, and usage may vary.

Which Forge release does World of Dragons use?

It runs on Forge for 1.12.2, and that is the only release the pack supports. Pick the 1.12.2 Forge profile when your launcher sets it up.

Can you play World of Dragons solo?

Yes, but it is harder. Mine and Slash scales monster health and damage as you level, so early trips away from spawn can be deadly. The pack is designed to reward adventuring, and players who skip levelling find that their crafted weapons and spells do not scale.

Does World of Dragons work with OptiFine?

OptiFine is not directly supported, and results vary if you add it. World of Dragons targets Forge on 1.12.2 and recommends 6 GB of RAM, so keep both in mind if you experiment with extra mods or other changes to the setup.
