Capes is a Fabric capes mod that displays capes from OptiFine, LabyMod and the MinecraftCapes Mod. Builds cover Minecraft 1.17 to 26.3 and run on the client only. Install it and the capes show; there is nothing to set up first.
Requirements and dependencies
- Loader: Fabric, Minecraft 1.17 to 26.3.
- Side: required on the client, unsupported on servers.
- Newest build (1.5.10 for 26.3) requires Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin. Builds for 1.19.2 and up follow the same requirement, and the one 1.21.9 to 1.21.10 build does too.
- Builds for 1.17 to 1.19.3 need no dependencies.
Put the Capes jar and each required jar in the mods folder of your game directory, then launch with the Fabric profile. The Kotlin library is the main cost: newer builds will not start without it.
Configuration
A configuration screen lets you turn off capes from individual cape mods. If you only want OptiFine capes, for example, you can disable the others there.
Forge builds have stopped
Forge builds existed for Minecraft 1.19.2 to 1.20.2 and needed Kotlin for Forge. The last one, 1.5.3 for 1.20.2, came out on 2023-10-09, and Fabric has been the only loader with new builds since.
Questions about Capes.
4 questions
How do I use the Capes mod?
Install Fabric, then drop the Capes jar and its required dependencies into your mods folder and launch the game. Capes from OptiFine, LabyMod and the MinecraftCapes Mod are displayed without further steps. A configuration screen lets you disable capes from particular mods.
Does the Capes mod work on Forge?
Only on older versions. Forge builds covered Minecraft 1.19.2 to 1.20.2, and the last one, 1.5.3, was released in October 2023. Newer Minecraft versions are built for Fabric only, so Forge players on recent versions need a different mod.
Which Minecraft versions does Capes support?
Fabric builds run from Minecraft 1.17 up to 26.3. Builds for 1.17 to 1.19.3 have no dependencies, while builds for 1.19.2 and later require Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin. Check the version you play before downloading.
Does the Capes mod work on multiplayer servers?
Capes is a client mod and the server side is unsupported, so you install it only on your own game. Do not add it to a server's mods folder. It changes which capes your client displays, not how a server runs.
