This combat roll mod gives players a dodge. Press R and the character rolls in the direction they are heading, forwards, backwards or sideways. It runs on Fabric and NeoForge, and it has to be installed on both the client and the server.

Loaders and versions

How the roll behaves

  • The default cooldown is 4 seconds, shown on the HUD. The cooldown length is configured on the server, and the HUD display on the client.
  • Each roll adds exhaustion (hunger) to the player. This amount is also server configurable.
  • A roll is blocked while the player is using an item, jumping or swimming.
  • Invulnerability frames during the roll exist but are off by default. Turn them on in config/combatroll/server.json5.

Attributes and enchantments

Three entity attributes control the roll. combatroll:distance sets how far you travel (3 blocks by default), combatroll:recharge sets how fast the cooldown recovers, and combatroll:count sets how many rolls you can chain before waiting (1 by default). Server admins can attach them to gear with /give commands and attribute modifiers.

Players can reach the same goals through enchanting. Multi-Roll goes on helmets and grants one extra roll per level. Acrobat goes on chestplates and leggings and speeds up recharge by 10% per level. Longfooted goes on boots and adds one block of roll distance per level.

Installing and configuring

Put the mod file and each required library in the mods folder, matching your loader. The install guide for Java mods covers the steps. On Fabric, client settings open through Mod Menu. Server settings appear in the config directory after the first launch with the mod installed.

Questions about Combat Roll.

4 questions

Does Combat Roll work on multiplayer servers?

Yes, but it must be installed on both the client and the server. The cooldown, exhaustion cost and roll distance are set in the server configuration, so the server owner decides how strong rolling is. The default cooldown is 4 seconds, and the HUD display is configured on the client.

How do I change the Combat Roll cooldown?

The default cooldown is 4 seconds and the server config controls it. Run the game once with the mod installed and the config files appear in the config directory. Players can also shorten it in play with the recharge attribute or the Acrobat enchantment.

Does Combat Roll have invulnerability frames?

It does, but they are disabled by default. A server owner can turn them on in config/combatroll/server.json5. The server-side configuration appears in the config directory after the game runs once with the mod installed. Other roll settings, such as the 4 second default cooldown and the exhaustion cost, are also server configurable.

Does Combat Roll work on Forge?

Forge builds exist, but they stopped in 2024 while Fabric and NeoForge continued, and the newest Forge file is a beta. For current play, use Fabric or NeoForge, which both received a build in 2026. Forge is not listed among the loaders this page treats as current.
