Spell Power is a library mod for Fabric, NeoForge and Forge that adds spell power attributes to Minecraft Java. It gives magic-focused mods a shared set of numbers for spell damage, critical strikes and haste. It must be installed on both the client and the server.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.19 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.21 to 1.21.1 require Forgified Fabric API.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.20.1. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What the attributes cover
Each magic school gets its own entity attribute, with ids such as spell_power:fire. The schools are deliberately Warcraft-like rather than the classic four elements, with fire as the only overlap.
- Schools: Arcane, Fire, Frost, Healing, Lightning and Soul, plus any others a mod adds through the Java API.
- Spell critical chance (spell_power:critical_chance) and spell critical damage (spell_power:critical_damage).
- Spell haste (spell_power:haste), which can speed up casting or cooldowns.
- A status effect for every attribute, sharing its id.
- Enchantments: a universal Spell Power, school-limited ones such as Sunfire (arcane and fire), secondary attribute enchantments, and Magic Protection, which mirrors Projectile Protection for magic.
Critical strikes and the API
The library lets other mods query an entity's spell damage, calculated from its attributes, status effects and enchantments. Critical strikes are pure chance, driven by the secondary attributes. Players start with a 5% spell critical chance, and all enchantments are configurable.
Installation and configuration
- 1.Install the loader that matches your Minecraft release, using the guide to installing Fabric or Forge and NeoForge.
- 2.Place the Spell Power file, and any required dependency listed above, in the mods folder on the client.
- 3.Place the same files in the mods folder of the server.
- 4.Launch once. The server-side configuration appears in the config directory.
Questions about Spell Power.
4 questions
Does Spell Power need to be installed on the server?
Yes. Spell Power is required on both the client and the server, so a multiplayer world needs the mod in both mods folders. Its configuration is server side, and the files appear in the config directory after the first launch with the mod installed.
Which spell power attributes does the mod add?
It adds one spell power attribute per magic school (arcane, fire, frost, healing, lightning and soul), plus spell critical chance, spell critical damage and spell haste. Each attribute also has a status effect with the same id.
What is the default spell critical chance?
Every player starts with a 5% spell critical chance. The attribute's base value is 100, which means 0%, and a default modifier of 0.05 lifts it to 105. A value of 200 would mean a 100% chance.
Does Spell Power add spells on its own?
No. Spell Power is a library that provides entity attributes, status effects, enchantments and an API to query the spell damage of an entity. The attributes cover six magic schools, plus spell critical chance, spell critical damage and spell haste, and each attribute has a status effect with a matching id.
