Connectible Chains is a Fabric mod that lets you run the vanilla chain between fences, walls and iron bars, turning plain boundaries into hanging decoration. It must be installed on both sides, so a multiplayer host and every player need it. This is legoatoom's original connectible chains mod, first published in 2020.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.16 to 1.21.11. The newest build requires Cloth Config API and Fabric API, optionally Mod Menu; some builds for 1.20.4 require Fabric API; some builds for 1.18 to 1.20.1 require Fabric API; some builds for 1.16 to 1.18.1 need no dependencies.
Placing and removing chains
- Use the normal vanilla chain item on fences, walls or iron bars to connect them.
- Sneak while using a chain on a fence if you want to place it normally instead.
- The hanging chains have collision. Attack one with shears to break it.
- If an invisible collision remains, hold shears, turn on entity hitboxes with F3+B, and attack the hitbox to remove it.
Installation
Set up Fabric first with the Fabric installation guide. Then place the mod file and the libraries listed above in the mods folder, and launch the Fabric profile. Do the same on the host, since both sides must have the mod.
Forge and other mods
There is no Forge build from legoatoom. A Forge port exists on CurseForge, but legoatoom does not maintain it. Sinytra Connector might also work. Is Connectible Chains still being updated?
No. After five years of updates, legoatoom stopped maintaining the mod and will not update it further. The source code remains open for anyone to fork. A separately maintained fork called Reconnectible Chains by evanbones exists, but it is independent and not endorsed by the original project.
Does Connectible Chains work on Forge?
The original is a Fabric mod. A Forge port exists on CurseForge, but legoatoom does not maintain it. Sinytra Connector might also work. legoatoom's own releases cover Fabric only, and the original is discontinued, so Forge players should expect no updates from legoatoom.
Does Connectible Chains need to be installed for multiplayer?
Yes. The mod is required on both sides, so the host and every player who joins must have it installed. Install it the same way on the host and on each player's machine, using a Fabric profile. Chains are placed with the vanilla chain item on fences, walls or iron bars.
How do I remove invisible collisions left by chains?
Hold a pair of shears and turn on entity hitboxes with F3+B. The leftover collision then shows as a hitbox. Attack that hitbox with the shears and it is removed, the same way you break a normal hanging chain.
