Diagonal Walls

Fuzs adds diagonal wall connections so castles, ruins and city walls can follow any angle. It removes vertical wall connections as the price.

Diagonal Walls is a Fabric and NeoForge mod by Fuzs that lets walls connect diagonally, finishing the Diagonal Blocks family. Castles, ruins and city walls are no longer locked to rigid angles. It must be installed on both the client and the server, and the older Forge builds have stopped.

What the mod changes

Walls link to neighbours at a diagonal, which gives curved ramparts and angled courtyards a far more natural outline. Blocks added by other mods are supported dynamically whenever possible. If one behaves oddly, add it to the diagonalwalls:non_diagonal_walls block tag to switch diagonal behaviour off for that block. Most resource packs work without extra setup.

It is part of the Diagonal Blocks family, alongside Diagonal Fences and Diagonal Windows. Diagonal model transformation code comes from XFactHD, who also helped during development.

Installing and configuring

  1. 1.Install Fabric or NeoForge for the Minecraft release you play.
  2. 2.Put the mod file and its required libraries, starting with Puzzles Lib, in the mods folder.
  3. 3.Repeat the same files on the dedicated server, since both sides need the mod.

On Fabric, in-game settings open through Mod Menu by Prospector. Otherwise edit the TOML files in .minecraft/config, named MOD_ID-client.toml, MOD_ID-common.toml or MOD_ID-server.toml depending on the config type. Not every type exists for this mod.

Questions about Diagonal Walls.

4 questions

Does Diagonal Walls need to be installed on the server?

Yes. Installation is required on both the client and the server, so a multiplayer setup needs Diagonal Walls on each side. The mod also depends on library mods, which are listed in the loaders and versions section, so install those alongside it before launching.

Why do my stacked walls have gaps after installing Diagonal Walls?

Installing the mod removes vertical wall connections for technical reasons. Walls no longer connect upwards and show gaps when stacked, like Minecraft 1.15.2 and earlier. Fuzs says this is intended, and restoring vertical connections is not feasible or planned.

Does Diagonal Walls work with walls from other mods?

Usually. Blocks added by other mods are supported dynamically whenever possible. If a modded wall behaves in an unintended way, add it to the diagonalwalls:non_diagonal_walls block tag and it will stop connecting diagonally. Most resource packs need no extra setup.

Does Diagonal Walls also make fences diagonal?

No. Diagonal Walls handles walls only. Fences come from the separate Diagonal Fences mod, and Diagonal Windows covers windows. Both are part of the Diagonal Blocks family that Diagonal Walls completes, expanding diagonal building in multiple directions. Each one targets a different block type.
